To never have played spin the bottle?

A while back I started a thread here and spin bottle was mentioned a lot and I was surprised as I thought it was pretty much only happened in the movies.
so has anyone actually played this?

I have. It's over-rated. I wouldn't feel I'd missed out if I hadn't.

When I played it most people chickened out of the actual snogging part anyway.

Overdueanamechange · 15/06/2021 11:55

Nope. I always thought of it as a bit coercive.

Ilovemaisie · 15/06/2021 11:57

I have never played it. I remember once there were plans to play '2 minutes in the closet' at a friend party. I ended up not going to the party as I couldn't think of anything more revolting at 15. Which either makes me sensible or boring....

WeAllHaveWings · 15/06/2021 11:58

Nope, never seen it played in real life. I was invited to join in a group game of strip poker once in my younger years Hmm, I left.

Fyredraca · 15/06/2021 11:59

No, never got invited to parties. Don't think I missed much.

UnculturedSwine · 15/06/2021 11:59

Not the actual version but we used to pour some of every alcoholic drink in our possession into a bottle, spin it and then whoever it landed on had to drink it

This is when we were about 14!

smersh84 · 15/06/2021 12:04

@WeAllHaveWings is that you Prince Harry?!

Oblomov21 · 15/06/2021 12:07

Nope.
And there isn't much I haven't done!!

It just wasn't a 'thang' when I was young. Can't say I feel I've missed out.

It had an en vogue moment in my boarding school when I was a teen. I played once but we all chickened out of the snogging. I think it broke a barrier though because we all got much more into snogging (in private, by choice) afterwards.

Stichintime · 15/06/2021 12:15

Yes, it was common for a while as teenagers.

RickJames · 15/06/2021 12:21

I find it a bit creepy.

I was once at a party, aged about 6, and there was a party game where the parents made you go in a cupboard with a boy. We just stood in the dark mortified while the adults whooped. This was a crass sort of family and I dreaded parties there ever after. It gave me a horror of this kind of thing - if prefer to have free will in kissing!

bonbonours · 15/06/2021 12:28

Yes we played it aged around 15, at a point when none of us were sexually active and all just pretty good friends, no relationships going on. It was just a bit of fun.

smersh84 · 15/06/2021 12:34

@bonbonours but didn't it make things weird between you ? how far did it erm go?

SirenSays · 15/06/2021 12:39

Yes! At pretty much every party I went to we played truth or dare, spin the bottle or some drinking game like Ring of fire. Even at church camp

smersh84 · 15/06/2021 12:47

@RickJames that is weird I don't like the sound of that family.Hmm
sorry about that

No, I don't think so. I don't think any of that group ever ended up going out with each other and we continued being friends until we left sixth form.

shivawn · 15/06/2021 13:56

Yeah it was popular at parties as a teenager, just normal dumb innocent stuff that seems fun and cool at that age!

MedusasBadHairDay · 15/06/2021 14:01

I remember playing it at a youth club, it was mostly truth or dare type stuff, I don't remember there being any kissing etc.

TabithaTiger · 15/06/2021 14:49

Not spin the bottle, but when I was 13 ish we used to play a sort of version of Forty,Forty In where you snogged the person you caught. Looking back, it was quite disgusting really! We used to play at the park in the evenings, lots of screaming and giggling, I can imagine we were incredibly unpopular with the local residents.

Gullible2021 · 15/06/2021 15:01

I think it's had it's day and wouldn't fly with today's teens in this age of (hopefully) better education about consent and coercion.

Spin the bottle and seven minutes in heaven were really popular in the early 00s at my school and I played both. I had my first kisses playing truth or dare. Both huge let downs. 7 minutes in heaven generally involved getting locked in a downstairs loo or a wardrobe allowing a boy to do whatever he wanted to you. Somehow I "lucked out" and always ended up in the loo with a gay lad and we'd cook up a story (usually involving fingering or a hand job), ruffle our hair and clothes around a bit, do a bit of performative moaning and then leave when time was up without either of us being called frigid or gay. At 13 I wasn't as lucky during such a game and ended up being touched intimately in a way I didn't want and being forced to give a boy a handjob all because I was afraid of being accused of being frigid.

Seriously, you didn't miss out on anything. The dream was getting to kiss your crush. The reality was watching him kissing the girl that was a million times prettier and skinnier than you, then being forced to have a slobbery washing machine snog with "dim tim" from Biology who never cleaned his retainers properly and who secreted the aroma of stale BO, willy cheese and pickled onion monster munch wherever he went.

Not the happiest days of my life.
