Moving to Uckfield

Hi Everyone. I currently stay in Horsham which I love however looking at house prices in other areas Horsham seems to be on the pricey side. Myself and my husband are viewing properties in Uckfield. Any insights to the area? Schooling, community feel etc. I know there is a lot of development going on at the moment. It is a very difficult decision to move from Horsham so any advice on the area would be appreciated

It's got a decent range of shops, a nice leisure centre, good little library (although opening hours in all E Sussex libraries seem to be getting cut every year) and a lovely independent cinema. If you want a bigger town, Tunbridge Wells isn't far and has great shops. Lovely countryside within easy reach if you're outdoorsy.

It does seem to lack a bit of a community feel though, which I've always put down to there being no pubs in the centre of town, although it does have some nice cafes and an Indian restaurant that my BIL really raves about.

Can't help you re schools, I'm afraid. There's a tremendous amount of new housing being built on the outskirts of Uckfield, which might put pressure on school places. The county council is pretty poor at planning ahead when new estates are built.

Oh, and it's got a great veterinary practice. There are 3 that are nearer, but the one at Uckfield is so good it's worth the drive.
