Greater clarification on weddings

Name change!

Can anyone provide greater clarity on current restrictions on weddings?

My venue are forcing me to have the original number of 120 however a lot of guests who originally were coming cannot due to travel restrictions/being elderly. We basically planned a very different wedding to what we might have now and will end up forking out for guests who cannot make it.

Sorry what are the social distancing guidelines on weddings- I understand you can now have over 30 guests

Search for it yourself instead of expecting others to do your work for you.

Caterinaballerina · 14/06/2021 21:04

That was rude from the PP. There will be some official guidance but I suspect you are looking for anecdotes about measures in place at other venues that you might be able to use to give some of the relatives confidence to join you etc. I hope things become clearer for you soon.

Lucy fisher has quite a good summary on Twitter.

What's the capacity size of the venue with social distancing measures - if you had 120 guests would this legally be allowed based on the venue size?

InnaBun · 14/06/2021 21:14

www.gov.uk/guidance/covid-19-coronavirus-restrictions-what-you-can-and-cannot-do

This page says guidance for weddings will be updated by 15th June (scroll down a bit)

Whereisthechicken · 14/06/2021 21:16

I don't see how your venue can enforce that you have 120 with the social distancing rules. Only 6 are allowed to sit around a table - can your venue fit 20 tables in (21 including yours) and ensure guests on neighbouring tables are 1-2m away? This is for both the drinks reception and the sit down meal because you can no longer stand and eat (as you would with canapes). Ask your venue how all your guests will be able to socially distance.

InnaBun · 14/06/2021 21:17

They might be able to charge you for that many people though. It depends on the contract you signed?

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 14/06/2021 21:19

This article seems to have some issues
www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2021/jun/14/weddings-with-more-than-30-people-can-go-ahead-as-englands-covid-limit-lifted

Venue sets the limit depending on how many tables of 6 socially distanced they can accommodate. No dancing. No singing.

Info not issues*

It’s however many your venue can hold with social distancing in place. So they need to advise you

They can’t have 120 if that’s how many the venue normally holds as that means no SD

Confused0904 · 14/06/2021 22:20

Thanks for those that replied with helpful suggestions!
Capacity of room is much more but only option available at the time we booked.

Anyway I was more really hoping for anecdotal/stories about how things have turned out.

@InnaBun well contract was signed for August 2020 wedding without knowledge of covid…

OP posts:
Confused0904 · 14/06/2021 22:25

@Whereisthechicken yes I guess that’s the other issue regarding social distancing… it’s just really not what we were expecting but better that others have has

OP posts:
Jennyfromtheculdesac · 14/06/2021 22:25

It was literally announced this evening. How on earth would anyone have anecdotal stories of how it turned out?

I think you need to check your contract for when you need to confirm numbers. It’s not the venues fault that a number of your guests can’t travel.

Confused0904 · 14/06/2021 22:26

Thanks @SomewhereInbetween1 where did you find this info?

OP posts:
Confused0904 · 14/06/2021 22:27

Jenny if you read my op I’m talking about since the limit was increased to 30!!! Which was in May some weddings have happened with social distancing.

Yeah, there's loads of people in the same boat I expect. Hopefully there's some legal advice somewhere as it doesn't seem fair to have to pay for the original numbers if it can't go ahead with those numbers. Have you tried calling your insurance company?
