To expect the school to email me back?

I emailed my dcs school a week ago to make an appointment for a chat with the principal. I have heard nothing back, aibu to expect a response??
I'm being deliberately vague about the details, but dc is 10 and it is regarding ongoing mental health issues. I have spoken to the teacher once earlier this year but have never previously spoken to or approached the principal. A week without replying is starting to seem a little rude....

Give them a ring in the morning and chase them.

Thanks Northernbird, I actually rang this afternoon and there was no answer. I'm just now considering emailing again. Not sure whether to go for polite/irritated or baffled in tone! Maybe a week isn't that long, but it seems long to me. Obviously it's more important to me though. So genuinely hard to know if I'm being unreasonable or not.

A week is ridiculous, I’d expect a reply within 48 hours

SillyBub · 14/06/2021 17:52

If you emailed the school I work at, you'd have someone acknowledge your email immediately, even if it was to say that someone would call you back at the end of the day. We also answer all phonecalls or if we don't, we call straight back if you've left a voicemail. A week is absolutely not acceptable!

Just forward it to them, mark it urgent and put 'Hello, just sending this again as I haven't had a response yet. Many thanks'

cansu · 14/06/2021 18:02

It will just have got missed. The amount of emails a head or even a teacher gets is insane. If I don't check every day, it is completely possible to miss something. Agree with the above poster resend it. I would probably copy in the class teacher as they are then likely to flag it up to the head. It is highly likely that the head will delegate answering it to someone else in the pastoral team.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 14/06/2021 18:52

Thanks for the replies. I will resend the original email. Think I will follow up with a phone call tomorrow too. Hopefully will be able to get through.

Re-send and attach a read receipt if you can.
