Harry Potter Boxset

Sorry, not an AIBU.

I have a Special Edition Harry Potter Book Set and I'm wondering if any wise Mumsnetters can advise the best place for me to sell it.

It was an expensive set and cost me a couple of hundred new. Ebay seems like the obvious answer but I'm an Ebay novice and don't even have an account. I'm also really hoping for a quick sale due to money being tight this month.

So if anyone has any recommendations of the best place to advertise it for a quick sale that would be great.

Facebook marketplace or gumtree. Selling locally saves a lot of hassle imo.

Even without an account, you can look on eBay to see what they sell for.

Hate to say it, but I was in Aldi this morning and they have a lot of potter books for a lot less than they used to sell for. Be realistic in pricing.

You can search completed and sold items on EBay to see what prices things actually sold for. I think it can be down to luck as to whether you get a quick sale or not.

I wouldn't sell on FB or Gumtree as you won't get much for it at all.

Have a look on eBay and see what they're going for.

Do your research and set a realistic price. I would try face book first.

Do you have better suggestions for the quick sale that op is hoping for?

Yes, eBay as I said. You can sell on eBay and post the same or next day if it's popular enough. Harry Potter stuff sells well.

Other options would be going to a local second-hand bookshop if you have one, or www.webuybooks.co.uk (or similar).

Of course OP could try selling on FB but it's not likely you'll make much on there.

SticksAndStoned · 14/06/2021 16:08

Personally I'm not convinced ebay is ideal for a new seller looking for a quick sale. eBay has so many pitfalls that selling in person avoids.

Second hand bookshops usually pay very little. It's great if you have a lot of things you'd want to get rid of so you can get rid of them all easily, but not for a one off higher priced item. Op would get more on Facebook or gumtree imo.

I'm not saying eBay isn't an option, but op was looking for other suggestions.

I've had a look at what the set is going for. First edition versions are going for 1k+! Sadly, mine isn't. Haha. Ones that aren't first edition are going for between 250 and 280. Not sure I'd have much luck selling locally for that. Hmm.
