To wish DP would stop striking up a conversation with me when I’m brushing my teeth?

Obviously this does not fall into the category of a huge problem but it’s a bit annoying. What is this all about!

Is it a boy thing? DH always decided to talk to me when doing this or when cooking when I have the extractor fan on. And it’s never anything serious.

My favourite is when he’s in another room and says loudly ‘what’s this?’ or ’did you out that there?’. Drives me nuts.

NiceGerbil · 13/06/2021 19:51

Lol he's probably like me- if I think of something then verbalising it is on autopilot!

You think you've got it bad- I often shout info/ ask questions through the closed door when he's having a shit! Tbf though he is in there an awful lot... Could the things be related Grin

StacysMomMandyJessiesEx · 13/06/2021 19:51

this happens to me regularly...cant even hear him above the electric toothbrush whirring away

CrystalMaisie · 13/06/2021 19:52

Lock the bathroom door?

Macncheeseballs · 13/06/2021 19:52

I brush my teeth on my own

toffeebutterpopcorn · 13/06/2021 19:53

He yells down the hall! “Hey toffee did I tell you that I have a meeting with Maggie today? I have to make sure that I’ve bla bla bla...”

bilbodog · 13/06/2021 19:54

Is he a dentist? ……

RUTheShitploppeeOrShitplopper · 13/06/2021 19:55

Is it a boy thing?

🙄 Never fails.

Magpiecomplex · 13/06/2021 19:56

Mine does this. And then gets annoyed when I indicate that I'm cleaning my teeth and can't answer... Hmm

crinklyfoil · 13/06/2021 20:01

@Macncheeseballs

I brush my teeth on my own
So do I!

Why not a boy thing - ds does this too. And my brother. None of my sisters ever did this.

socalledfriend · 13/06/2021 21:14

Just lock the bathroom door - then pretend you can't hear him through it.

KingdomScrolls · 13/06/2021 22:46

I do this, both when DH is brushing and when I am, essentially communicating with a series of hand gestures and muffled grunts. He understands me now, sign of a long relationship in my book 😁

Ah you're comment has insinuated that all males do this. This will lead to them being offended and becoming a minority in society. I'm guessing that was the issue? Confused

LucyLocketsPocket · 13/06/2021 23:07

The kids always do this to me. I feel your pain.

And that makes it a "boy" thing - because the girls you know don't do it and the boys you know do? Perhaps it's a male trait thing that runs in your family then if we have to pathologise it?

Only 2 women do that in my family, no other person. I have A LOT of boys in mine but none of them do. What should I call it then - a girl thing? Or is it just that some people happen to do it, regardless of their sex? Why does everything someone does have to be categorised as a boy or girl thing?

RUTheShitploppeeOrShitplopper · 13/06/2021 23:49

Maskedrevenger · 14/06/2021 00:04

I thought my DH was the only one to do this I even started brushing my teeth in our downstairs bathroom to avoid him but he still tracks me down. I have to lock the bathroom door now just to stop him, I have some hearing loss which made it even worse and he got the hump if I didn’t hear what he said. He just lurks pitifully outside the door now til I’m finished, it’s never important what he wants to say and could easily wait, it’s infuriating.

JackieTheFart · 14/06/2021 01:04

My husband does this as well, also leans in for a kiss the second I’ve put a mouthful of food in Hmm. It is so irritating!
