To think 38 isn't that old in this day and age...

To be expecting a baby?
Just reading about Roxanne Pallets baby news and her age comes up in the headline every time. Personally, I would not liked to have been pregnant in my mid to late thirties but is it really worth mentioning in 2021?

No idea who she is but I agree it's not so old it's newsworthy.

Trinacham · 13/06/2021 12:26

No, I don't think it's old nowadays. I want to have finished by the time I'm 35 but only because of the higher chance of risks. Having said that though if my fertility didn't allow it until later I would be happy to have them at 38+

(30, pregnant with my first)

Tal45 · 13/06/2021 12:28

Still lots of people having babies at 40 I thought.

TwoAndAnOnion · 13/06/2021 12:44

I've just opened up 10 random news articles .... 8 of them include peoples ages, whether older/younger, male/female, pregnant/or not

Despite best efforts from the London Ambulance Service, and London’s Air Ambulance paramedics, the 25-year-old died at the scene.

Eriksen fell to the floor after rushing to receive a throw-in close to the corner flag deep in Finland’s half of the field. The 29-year-old collapsed

Princess Eugenie has given birth to her first child, a son, Buckingham Palace has announced. The Princess, 30, gave birth... blah blah

Blossomtoes · 13/06/2021 12:47

Nothing to do with this day and age - my mum was 39 when my brother was born in 1957.

DirectionsForUse · 13/06/2021 12:50

30 years between my Grandmother's first and last baby. She was born in 1897 and had the first at 17.

All news articles mention women's age though, it's not necessarily because they think she's old to be having a baby.

NotAnotherPushyMum · 13/06/2021 12:54

38 hasn’t been old to have a baby in any day or age. Until reliable family planning was available women went on having babies well into their 40s.

Most news reports mention age.

3scape · 13/06/2021 13:02

It's not even new. My gran and I both had 3rd children in our early 40s.

3scape · 13/06/2021 13:05

A woman's age seems to be something reporters obsess over though. I guess it's a sop to them not having bothered to do any research or interviewing of their own Wink

GreyhoundG1rl · 13/06/2021 13:06

In these days of women having ivf in their sixties, no; 38 is no age at all!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 13/06/2021 13:10

Adults should be free to choose to have children at whatever age they want.

We had ours late twenties. It was right for us. Some of our friends aren't ready yet in our mid thirties. Their choice.

NcagainNC · 13/06/2021 13:14

I think it’s old for a first baby

worriedaboutN · 13/06/2021 13:16

Lots of my friends have babies up to the age of 44/45 it’s not uncommon at all now

I remember growing up my mum always saying nobody should have a baby past 35

highlighteryellow · 13/06/2021 13:17

It's not old, but if a newspaper article mentions someone's age it's not because they're implying they are old.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 13/06/2021 13:25

I suppose it comes down to whether it’s part of the headline. ‘Roxanne Pallet announces pregnancy’ as the headline followed by ‘the 38 year-old actress’ as part of the main body? Perfectly normal. ‘38 year-old Roxanne Pallet announces pregnancy’ feels a bit more like they’re making an issue of her age.

I’ve just had a quick Google, and only the Mail references get age in the headline. That’s the Mail for you.

Wherediditgo · 13/06/2021 13:30

I researched my family tree a while back and it was very common for women to have several children and still be having them in their mid to late 40s. Definitely nothing new.

However, I am 37… I have one and I am done Grin

Timmytoo · 13/06/2021 13:39

I had my baby at 39. She wasnt planned by my DP and I. No complications, vaginal birth with no painkillers, not through choice i might add, no stitches, my body bounced back and no problem with energy levels. She's very healthy 17 months later. I'm 41 now.

I know for a fact that I would not have coped 10 years ago. I was not ready at all back then and was traveling around.

But now I've conquered what i wanted to do, so was pleased that i was given this surprise opportunity of being a mum and she has completed our life. If you're healthy and generally fit then 38 is not old for a baby at all. My friends of a similar age, or even older than me were pregnant with their first at the same time.

MrsBongiovi · 13/06/2021 13:39

It’s not unusual now, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be having a baby at 38. Each time their own though and you can’t control how your life works out and when you meet ‘the one’. 38 certainly isn’t old.

Italiandreams · 13/06/2021 14:01

Nearly everyone I know had their family in mid to late 30’s, just seems pretty normal to me.

BeepBoopBop · 13/06/2021 14:56

My mum had twins at 38. Love my sisters 💕

Canwe666 · 13/06/2021 15:16

I think each to their is older then I would have wanted to be but if she feels it’s right for her it’s fine

dutchessmom · 14/06/2021 10:03

I don't think 38yo it's too old. I'm trying to conceive my second and I feel I'm running out of time, but I'm 43. I think in news, they use people's ages for everything. Generally, they will use everything they can to get those clicks, not thinking or caring how insensitive they might be.

elliejjtiny · 14/06/2021 10:09

It's not old to be having a baby but until recently it would have been considered old to be having a first baby

30degreesandmeltinghere · 14/06/2021 10:09

I had a dc at 37 and one at 43...never felt old!!
