Please tell me about your morning routines / habits :) particularly solo ones that take place before the calls of work or motherhood or general life grind take over!

If I ever wake up before everyone else, I get myself a cuppa and a good book and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Jeffjefftyjeff · 12/06/2021 22:20

Our little patio gets the sun in the morning so if it’s warm enough, I stand on it in my bare feet drinking tea, listening to the birds. It’s my favourite thing in the whole day

User574664 · 12/06/2021 22:21

I never get up before my child I love sleep too much 🙈

user1471538283 · 12/06/2021 22:23

I'm always first up. I feed the Dcats and have a cup of tea; outside in the summer. I love quiet parts of the day.

Chrestomanci3 · 12/06/2021 22:24

Set my alarm for 5:30 on a weekday to exercise for 30 min before the dc wake up and breakfast/making packed lunches/getting ready for school/work starts.

KnowlWay · 12/06/2021 22:25

Newsy radio on, put lunches in bags, put washing on or hang it out, will have emptied dw or do that. Mop floor. Sit on toilet in peace. Coffee.

SparklyLeprechaun · 12/06/2021 22:29

I wake up at 6, short 15 minutes walk, coffee and a book for an hour. Unless it's a busy time at work, in which case it's coffee in front of the computer.

Bliss! This sounds like my kind of morning :)

For sleeping.

I wouldn't get out of bed if I didn't need to be somewhere or need to be doing something specific.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 12/06/2021 22:33

I walk the dog and listen to a podcast

Ohmych · 12/06/2021 22:33

I get up at 4am for work so once I'm ready I sit with a coffee until it's time to leave in the peace and quiet.

Mooda · 12/06/2021 22:33

Cup of tea outside, wander round the garden listening to birds and chatting to my plants. I bloody love being middle aged.

Kintsugi16 · 12/06/2021 22:34

I wake DH to make me a cuppa 😂

Beebopawhop · 12/06/2021 22:39

I sit on my arse drinking coffee and thinking I should be exercising...

HintofVintagePink · 12/06/2021 22:42

Rarely happens as DCs up at 6.15. When it does happen; 10 minutes quiet/reading, big glass of water whilst the coffee brews and I look out of the kitchen windows at the garden, quick shower in peace and I make pancakes for DC. The rest of the day does seem to flow better when I get up first. But I love sleep! And if I ever work out at 6am I’ll be amazed!

Cowbells · 12/06/2021 22:45

Best time of the day. I feed the cat, then the birds, brew tea and watch the wildlife come down for breakfast while I drink it. Then potter around tidying or sorting laundry, write in a journal or read or meditate or do yoga, brew coffee and finally wake the rest of the house. An hour to myself. Bliss.

That's resilient! What time do you go to sleep? Do you always get up at 4am? I'd like to fit in a workout in the morning but I feel stiff at that time so I just lie in bed until I have to get up!
Libelula21 · 12/06/2021 23:08

I waste the time scrolling on my phone :(

BonnieDundee · 12/06/2021 23:10

Breakfast with a leisurely coffee and MN Blush

Curious2021 · 12/06/2021 23:16

I’d never think to do anything other than roll over and go back to sleep! Wish I was more like you lot.

Ohmych · 12/06/2021 23:19

@newyorkbreakfast I get up that time 3/4 days a week so not every day. I'm usually in bed by 10 latest but struggle to get to sleep the night before.

jackstini · 12/06/2021 23:19

If it's a few mins:
Cup of tea
Fresh air outside if it's nice
Daily devotions/ gratitudes in peace

Longer:
Luxury breakfast - eggs benedict or granola, yoghurt, berries
Read a book
Mumsnet!

RealisticSketch · 12/06/2021 23:24

I put the kettle on and while it boils I let the chickens out and feed them. Back to boiled kettle to make my cup of tea then sit on the sofa with headphones watching programmes in my phone that I like but everyone else hates. Bliss.

FastFood · 12/06/2021 23:30

I live on my own so its pretty easy for me, and I loooove mornings.

My morning routine actually starts the day before - I prepare my clothes before going to bed and plan the work day, I close Slack and all my Chrome tabs except the ones I need for my morning task (last thing I do at the end of my work day)

I wake up naturally between 5:30 and 6, I take the dog out, prepare a tea, and go back to bed to write my journal whilst listening to BBC Radio 6.
After that, I work for 1h, still in bed, on what I prepared the day before. No emails, no Slack, just focused, creative and challenging work that I would probably struggle to do later in the day.
I sometimes think that I produce 80% of my work outcomes of the week during that morning hour in bed.
I tried before to use that time to read, but I struggle with processing information so early, I'm better with output than input.

After that, I take a shower, get dressed, and walk the dog.
Then a coffee, and I start working around 8:15.

If I go to the office, I skip the morning task but think about it on my cycling commute so I'm ready to tackle it when I arrive at work.

Empty dishwasher
Maybe do laundry
Get the DCs' snacks and school stuff ready
Get myself ready
Make a cup of tea
If still time, log in and start work early
