We have had HF for the past 3 weeks. I cancelled from this week because I wasn't really excited about any of the food choices for next week.

Today I was cooking one of the meals ans noticed the broccoli was very yellow. We wouldn't usually eat it that way.

I then went to use the green beans from another meal and they were mouldy. They looked like they were growing cotton wool.

I have reported it on the app and it says £5 credit will be applied to my account. I don't really want to buy from them again now.

Has anyone else had this and does this seem fair?

Luckily we had some cabbage in the fridge so I cooked that instead of the broccoli but we would have used that for a different meal.

I’ve switched between HF and Gousto on and off during the years. Gousto do have more choice but I cancelled last summer when they kept reinstating my cancelled boxes whilst I was away. It was very stressful having to logon each week to re-cancel everything.

We usually get a HF box once a month. The recipes are really easy to replicate. They are very responsive via Twitter to any issued and always credit promptly for any missing items.

@SlipperTripper What is the store cupboard option?

I’ve had it for a couple of months. Whilst I was in the discounted intro rate it was definitely worthwhile.

At full price I’m not so sure, especially when you have to pay extra for fish and some meat dishes.

I’ve had a few things missing but they’ve never been showstoppers. I can improvise for missing rosemary, but not so much for missing chicken.
The best thing is that it got me out of my meal planning rut and got the DCs involved in cooking.

@ElderMillenial there's the option to bolt on additional products - we've had a bars of Tony's Chocoloney, a banana bread mix, some garlic bread and a box of four chocolate ganaches (noticing a theme?) this week, but there's loads of oils/vinegars/wines/desserts etc available

ElderMillennial · 15/06/2021 16:31

Yes I found HF and Gousto can be good for trying new things and not having the same foods all the time.

I get that it's going to cost more than buying the same items from Aldi, for example, but I expect the things they do send to be edible and to have all the ingredients for a recipe...

I digress slightly, but If anyone does Gousto, if you go to pause your subscription it pops up with 25% off to get you to stay.

NoMoreMuchin · 15/06/2021 16:54

I did about 6 months of HF, didn't seem to have problems with stuff arriving going off, but it was in the winter, which might make it easier for things to stay fresh. I gave up because the packaging was ridiculous.

Eg a single recipe would have soy sauce in a tiny sachet, sesame oil in a separate tiny sachet, rice vinegar in yet another tiny sachet, sesame seeds in a tiny sachet etc..

Can I ask those posters who have changed to Gousto if their packaging is the same or if its less wasteful.... Ta!

SoddingWeddings · 15/06/2021 16:59

@NoMoreMuchin No it's very much the same. I do, however, keep all the recipes I like and cook them again later from scratch, so end up using normal bottles, jars of spice etc the next time.

I take the point about waste, but they do try to make things as recyclable as possible.

NoMoreMuchin · 15/06/2021 17:01

Thanks @SoddingWeddings

Namechangeforthis88 · 15/06/2021 17:03

The waste was the clincher for me. Someone gave me a voucher so I tried it. Liked the food but I was really sickened by the amount of packaging that had to go to landfill for a few meals.

wishiwasbytheseaside · 15/06/2021 17:11

We've had mushy coriander and missing key ingredients but also extra stuff, last week we got an entire extra bag of couscous and some shallots!
We've only done it with the free codes and then will pause again

thismeansnothing · 15/06/2021 17:15

Hello fresh are a joke.

In our last box there was an issue with every meal.

For a chicken dish they didn't send the chicken. So had to go out and buy again.

A pasta dish they forgot 1 of the 3 portions of pasta.

Mouldy veg in another.

Recipe card missing for another meal (I know you can use the app but I found that a faff).

We were offered £5 credit. Sorry but that's not good enough. And it could only be used on a full price box. Really wouldn't order from them (and haven't) again

GraduallyWatermelon · 15/06/2021 18:37

Our Hello Fresh box was damaged in transit (apparently - it didn't make it to us). They could not resend... at all. They couldn't even get us 1 or 2 meals out to tide us over. We were massively put out at the time, we'd ordered for convenience.

They did refund the box (although this was not automatic and we had to message HF for this to happen) and give us £2.80 in credit 🙄

ElderMillennial · 15/06/2021 19:31

@SlipperTripper I see what you mean now

@thismeansnothing I had forgotten but when we had HF the first time, they missed out the recipe cards then. They emailed them to me but they weren't printer friendly and I also prefer the card to having to flick through the recipe on the app. I also think the recipe card is part of what you pay for and they are nice to keep so that was annoying.
