to expect parents to ask their children not to throw things over my head?!?!

My 5 year old attends a forest school on Friday afternoons at a local park, and as it is a nice day I thought I would sit at the other end of the park with a blanket. Obviously there are loads of kids around as school has just finished and it's sunny. Clearly not an issue- I pitched my blanket right in the corner out of everyone's way. Then a large gaggle of children, I would say aged between 7 and 10, came running over and started chucking model planes about (the foam sort), including directly over my head where several of them landed on me. Their parents were sitting about 10 feet away and could clearly see what was happening. I asked the children extremely kindly and politely if they would mind not throwing the planes over my head. Ignored. So I got up and moved to another spot, whereupon the whole group of parents gave me filthy looks and shook their heads at me.

Surely IANBU to expect that, if your child is throwing things over a stranger's head, that you would ask them to stop?!?!! I know kids can be totally oblivious to that sort of thing but if that had been one of my DC I'd have been mortified and immediately told them to stop!!!

That's odd behaviour on their part. I can imagine my DC obliviously throwing things too close to people but of course I would stop them.

Pick up anything that lands on you and snap it into several pieces, smiling the whole time. If confronted, pretend not to speak English.

YANBU. I would never let my children do this.

I honestly didn't tell them off in any way. I said "that looks really fun, but do you think you could try not to throw them over my head please?"

I am definitely not blaming the kids! Like I said i know they have zero self awareness. I was just agog at the reaction of the parents.

Unfortunately there are some parents who seem to think everyone should accommodate their kids. This is especially frustrating when they are relaxing, leaving you to deal with their kids.
YANBU- you asked nicely and then moved when the lids didn't listen. Perfectly appropriate way of dealing with the situation.

Yanbu op. How annoying.

You’ve been too nice about it! You should have told them off a bit, or shouted at the parents to keep their kids under control.

It's absolutely reminding me of when we went to Aldeburgh the year before last and we're queuing up for fish and chips (the queue was long). The two kids in front of us (with both parents) were climbing into the front garden of the one of the houses and picking the flowers!!! My dc said can we pick flowers too mummy and I said no you absolutely cannot. At which point I got a dirty look from the mother. So clearly I am doing something wrong 🤣

Lol....honestly what’s up with these people? It’s not you OP, it’s them!
