To think it should be called 'wife-ing' resources, not 'husbanding' resources?

I'm the only fucker in this household who seems to have an eye on what we've got in and making it last until the next shopping day. Grrrr.

What?

Cassandraprobs · 11/06/2021 12:15

Definitely, if shopping was left to DH for example we'd definitely have all the ingredients for home cooked meals to be fair, except there'd be one key ingredient missing for each, and no toilet paper or cleaning supplies.

And everyone would have very generic birthday presents 2 days late.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/06/2021 12:17

Well I've heard of animal husbandry, but not any other type, apart from male partners in a marriage being called husbands of course, but never husbanding in this context.

If things run out, they know where the shop is, unless they are pre-teens or physically/mentally incapable. Otherwise they need to solve their own problems of item X, Y or Z running out. And if their wants exceeds the household budget, they need to come up with a solution to overcome this.

Managing resources fits the bill without being precious.

UhtredRagnarson · 11/06/2021 12:45

Ive never heard of husbanding resources. What is it?

Cassandraprobs · 11/06/2021 12:56

Husbanding is conserving resources and avoiding waste, something I am still teaching my DH so husbanding doesn't seem the right word for us anyway!

^This. Especially with toothpaste...does he eat the stuff??
Cassandraprobs · 11/06/2021 13:12

Same here! I sometimes wonder if I'm unhygienic when toothpaste lasts ages for me but gone in a week or two for him!

Thingsdogetbetter · 11/06/2021 13:13

Absolutely the other way tround in my house. Dh is the only one who knows what we have and what we need as he does the shopping. We'd never have milk or loo roll if it was left to me.

UhtredRagnarson · 11/06/2021 13:21

What’s it called in houses where the couple aren’t married?

Pyjamagame · 12/06/2021 10:41

To be fair I think it has its origins in the Scandi languages husband coming from 'hus' house and 'band' (bonde) which means peasant and from which the house peasant would be the owner and the hus bond. I think. But fuck me I'm glad to hear that there are other people out there who are in the same predicament.

@UhtredRagnarson I'm ashamed of you -- you of all people should have known that Grin

@Cassandraprobs shower gel here disappears within a few days. I buy the pump action one now. Anything to slow down the consumption. I can get clean with one or two squirts, not half a bottle.

Forgive me. My only excuse is I was born Saxon and only inducted into my Dane life when I was almost a man. And I never could keep a wife Grin
