To use the sprinkler to water the garden

DH has recently moved out so I'm trying to balance everything by myself. My job is pretty stressful and full on and there just seems to be so much to do. It hasn't rained here for ages and we have a pretty large garden so I've started putting the sprinkler on in different areas of the garden in an evening. I know it's not environmentally sound but I'm knackered! I'm still doing the pots with the water from the water butt. Bitch neighbour has made a couple of snidey comments about it (it doesn't go in her garden or anything, she's just a nosey cow) and I just want to tell her to fuck off. AIBU?

Yanbu

She’s being ridiculous
Water her next time

Proudboomer · 10/06/2021 18:39

As long as you are on a water meter fine but it is still a pretty crap way of watering.
The water needs to go to the base of the plant for the roots to soak it up. Randomly spraying the plant with a sprinkler doesnt do that and can do more harm as the sun on the wet leaves will burn the plant.

Yanbu.
I have to say though that one of my calming activities after busy day is standing in the garden with the hose and watching the birds. Very mind clearing so of you have time sometimes, go for it

Next she makes a comment tell her she is more than welcome to come and water your garden.

I would only water the pots.
Anything else that cant cope with the English weather dies in this garden.

Penguintatoo · 10/06/2021 18:59

She'd have a meltdown if I didn't water it at all and something died. Her favourite activity seems to be staring into my garden and finding something wrong with it. Daft old bat. Maybe I'll just move the sprinkler right up to the fence she stands at, give her something real to moan about.

Can you tell I'm in a bad mood?!

Plants in borders, unless freshly planted, really shouldn't need watering at all.

SilverGoblin · 10/06/2021 19:02

When she moans
.
.
.
Drop yer knickers and piss on the grass
.
.
.
Ask, is that better?

Teach her to mind her own business.

Your only problem might come if she's turned on by that and decides to sexually harass you.

If you water proper deep you can then get plants root deeper and stay without watering longer. First season when I planted I spent SO MUCH time just standing there watering. It also has a benefit that if I go somewhere, garden is fine for few days.
Now it's just every few days standing there for half an hour with a house and chill. (Small garden)

This has cheered me up and is exactly what I'm going to do in my head at least

Pots need watering. Things in the ground and the lawn don't need watering at all (unless newly planted).
