To feel sad about this

We've just moved house, we got our new driving licenses today, UK ones not EU ones 😢

All driving licences issued in the UK are UK driving licences.

There's no such thing as an EU driving licence, all countries issue their own.

Justcallmebebes · 10/06/2021 17:18

What's an EU licence? Mines UK and always has been

missmopple · 10/06/2021 17:21

Assuming you live in the UK, why did you think you would get an EU licence?

Sometimesonly · 10/06/2021 17:30

People being deliberately obtuse here. Hmm OP obviously means it no longer has the EU flag on it. I agree it's sad, it's a tangible sign of everything we've lost.

Flumpaphone · 10/06/2021 17:31

I know what you mean OP, when my new 'blue' passport arrived I felt quite sad and angry, didn't even want to look at it (and it's a flimsy cheap thing). I'm going to buy one of those maroon passport covers to make it look like to old one. Or maybe one with stars and "I didn't vote for Brexit" on it

Wrong.

You need to read more carefully. That's a style of licence issued by individual countries to all members of the EEA and is not to do with EU status.

So I repeat - there is no such thing as an EU driving licence. The EU does not issue driving licences.

Sometimesonly · 10/06/2021 17:38

It is commonly known as an EU driving licence. I never said the EU issued them. 🙄

Yup
Sometimesonly · 10/06/2021 17:41

Yes! I have one. It is valid in EU countries. It's not that hard to grasp. Grin

It's valid in the EEA, which is not the EU.
Marmite27 · 10/06/2021 17:43

I’ve sent off my old passport for renewal today. I’m not looking forward to getting my new one.

To add insult to injury, DH has another 7 years on his burgundy one Sad

Sometimesonly · 10/06/2021 17:47

Well if you want to be pedantic it is valid in the EU plus the countries which are in the EEA but not the EU. So yes, it is valid in EU countries. You seem strangely invested in this!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 10/06/2021 17:47

Even these call it EU licence🙄 give it a rest people

Is that what you like to call 'blue' ? Or is it just blue? And I believe a French company won the tender for production, so it's EU shoddy goods. Cheer upWink
friedafried · 10/06/2021 19:25

Because my old licence was a European one with our European flag in it and uk in the circle, just the way the ones in the rest of Europe were with our European flag and the country name. Now it says in big letters uk driving licence and has the union flag on it, that's not my flag. I don't like the union flag, it's not representative of the fact that I am European.

I just had to get a new licence as just moved too. I noticed the change and felt a bit sad too.
