Always feel ill when ovulating

Does anyone else feel dreadful mid cycle? I have IBS and it really flares up that week and I get so bloated I can barely breathe, an upset stomach, cramps, fatigue, dizzy, headaches etc. I feel a lot worse mid cycle than I do just before my period/during it. Does anyone know why this is happening? I know it must be a hormonal fluctuation but I’m not sure what exactly.

I spoke to my GP about it and he couldn’t have been less interested if he tried. Just said to take paracetamol and sleep more that week. I feel like I’m recovering from an incredibly toxic hangover for 5-6 days each month 🤢

Sounds awful my dd is similar though be interested to see if anyone else cones along with any ideas. She had an ultrasound but was normal

I get extreme pain when I ovulate, its so painful it makes me feel sick, i have heard a small percentage of women get this?

Wanttocry · 10/06/2021 22:36

Yep I get similar, mine is mainly feeling generally shit, severe nausea plus bad ovulation pain that had me doubled over yesterday. It’s making TTC virtually impossible.
I had an ultrasound (today actually) that was normal and the Dr just said some women have the pain. I might ask if there is anything I can take for the nausea though, it’s like morning sickness every month.
It was never this bad before I had DD.

Yes to ovulation pain lasting a few days, bloating. In Germany it has a name - mittleschmerz. I've been put on the pill recently for heavy painful periods and it's also resolved a lot of mid cycle pain, constipation and ibs type symptoms. If you are not ttc or against contraception I would suggest asking for something that will suppress ovulation.

Yeah. I used to have endometriosis but at last check post baby it had cleared. Now I get ovulation pain that causes me to double over, panting for breath, none of my pain relief (and I've got good stuff) will touch it. I'm literally writhing on floor. But it only last a few hours, then gone.

Often get some upset stomach with it too. And a migraine later.

My technique is when it's about ovulation time, the first tiniest cramp I now take ALL my different pain relief, cancel my plans and get a couple of hot water bottles. This seems to keep it under control, whereas if I let it progress with the initial niggly pain it will escalate within about 30 mins to something I can't get under control easily.

Yep I do, I have an IUD though so wondering if that makes it worse. I am about to do a blood test to check hormone levels as I've suspected it's worsened by high progesterone.

Was just thinking this about mine, today. I’m very sore around the whole lower abdomen / womb-y area. Bloated, period-like feelings. Not feeling great at all... I sometimes worry that something more serious is going on down there (have my cervical smear next week). My periods were lighter after pregnancy/ birth / BF but my last one was an ordeal & now this Ovulation is too...
When I was younger I would get bad stabbing pains, and had an ovarian cyst a few years ago. But now the whole area just feels so uncomfortable.

nomorespaghetti · 10/06/2021 22:50

I get so bloated and uncomfortable, lethargic, horrible pain usually on my right side, and it usually lasts 4/5 days. It’s awful. I had an ultrasound a few weeks ago and it showed that my right ovary is enlarged, so I’ve had some blood tests and an mri off the back of that and just waiting for the results now. It’s horrible, worse than my periods (which are also awful due to a uterus full of polyps! But that’s another story!)

HelloBunny · 10/06/2021 22:51

I get bad headaches too, 24 hours with vomiting about once a month either before ov or my period. Have had the headaches since my teens, so it’s hormone related. And I didn’t get them during pregnancy, funnily enough.

Acupuncture has a good record for women’s symptoms. From £50 a session in my area.

weegiepower · 11/06/2021 03:45

I do, I get generally bloated and feel nauseous but I also get a general ill feeling every time, swollen throat, exhausted, basically feeling like I'm coming down with a horrible bug, I have pmdd so once that hits I know its all down hill from there, I hate it

Starrr123 · 04/03/2022 18:49

@Caramel81 has anything helped ? How are you now xx

SandysMam · 04/03/2022 18:59

I am honestly so much better looking when I am ovulating! It’s so weird, people comment on it all the time “you look lovely today Sandy” but only when mid cycle! The rest of the month, minging!

Arghhconfused · 04/03/2022 20:01

Very painful ovulation, im prescribed codeine for it

Franceschina · 06/03/2023 15:24

SO glad I came across this thread. I have been having horrific ovulation pain since forever now. The week AFTER my period (lead up to ovulation) feels SO much worse than PMS and period combined. It's as if the minute my period is over, I start to come down with something - dizziness, fatigue, aches and pains, palpitations, sweats AND chills (?!) headaches and despair, hehe. Then around Cycle Day 12, the actual 6 agonizing hours of ovulation pain... Glad to read I'm not alone. How have you been doing ? Does any one in this thread have any updates ? x

Northlights22 · 06/03/2023 15:28

I have endometriosis everywhere but mainly the bowel and this is what you describe
GP ignored me and told me it was IBS for years

DratThatCat · 06/03/2023 16:14

Mine isn't as bad as some of the above posters but yes I get awful pain when I ovulate, it's like I'm being stabbed. I can't stand, can't lie straight. The only thing that helps is taking the right combo of pain killers and lying curled up until it passes.
