To hate surprises and gifts?

The exception being my DP or family. But from anyone else, I really hate getting a surprise or someone hinting at one. I really dislike opening gifts in front of them and I always feel I owe them back something or am somehow in debt to them. Aibu to feel like this ?

Me too. Not because I feel like I owe something back, I like giving gifts myself but I can’t think of a time in my adult life that I have been given something I actually like and want, unless I have specifically asked for it. Not even by family or DH. I hate pretending I like it then having a bunch of stuff I don’t want hanging around, or having to arrange those tedious red letter day type things or whatever. Really ungrateful I know 🙈

Ooh people are the worst aren't they, feckin gift givers

I hate it too. I have refused to accept birthday or Christmas presents as much as possible for years now.

It's my birthday next week. This is the first time in years I haven't felt tense and worried at this point because I have been completely explicit about gifts not only being something I would prefer not to receive but something that actively upsets me and I believe PIL and SIL will finally accept that this year.
