FFS - "because Covid"

Sorry, I know its been done and I know its Covid but feel like I need some AIBU level bile. Just been told the swimming pool has now got a 1:1 ratio for under 16s so as a single parent I can't take my kids swimming without roping in someone else. Mine are 10 and 11 and perfectly competent at following the guidelines and swimming. By doing this they have just doubled the number of people in close proximity in the pool. They could have had two swimmers in the pretty safe environment of the chlorinated water and one adult on the side SDing and mask wearing. Instead they are going to have 4 people in the water and changing rooms. Idiotic. Plus their website doesn't actually say that - in fact it specifically says the "usual" ratio applies which pre covid was no adult needed over 8 or 1 adult per younger 2 children. FFS.

That's so frustrating, OP. I feel your pain.

I'm getting so fed up with everything being blamed on Covid- banks shutting in the afternoons, an incomprehensible system to get a GP appointment at my surgery, every other swing being removed in our parks despite all other equipment staying, poor customer service, poor quality of goods...these are all things that have affected me in the past month and all blamed on effing Covid. Everything is long winded and made so difficult, and often increases the problem of people congregating in one area. Eurgh. So fed up.

Oh yes. There are some bonkers things going on. Overthinking in some cases actually making things worse as in your example. Sick of queuing outside of the banks now...we have visited two branches of Lloyds recently, one quite small but the other huge spacious city centre...both only allowing two customers in at any one time. Today was the City Centre one...two customers allowed in yet three members of staff just inside the doorway ''assisting'' customers Confused

Is it council run?

I'd officially complain about that. It could be seen as discriminatory and makes absolutely no fucking sense.

HugeAckmansWife · 09/06/2021 17:11

it is yes. The woman on the phone sympathised and said she had questioned it and apparently a man had complained to the CC on the same terms but it was knocked back. I understand the need for 1:1 when they are very small and non swimmers but it makes no sense from the Covid perspective as with the other examples above and on the other thread the other day - lots of school drop and pick up systems especially seem so poorly thought out and increase queuing and crowds and proximity. We have a thing at the school I work at next week. It would usually be a visiting workshop, but its all being done via Zoom and I know its going to be shit, the kids won't interact and its un-necessary - the visitors could distance easily and the kids are gathering all the time anyway.
