To ask if this is normal re varicose veins

I have suffered with varicose veins since I was a young teenager. I’ve always absolutely hated them but other than being ugly and meaning I’ve never worn a short skirt without tights, they haven’t been painful other than the very occasional ache. Recently my legs in general are very achey, throughout the day I am aware of little aches and by the end of the day they are very achey and I want to rest them. I have only recently turned 37 but I feel like an old fucking woman.
Please can I ask if anyone else with varicose veins experiences this/if it is normal? I bloody hate it but I start getting anxious if this is normal or not. Thanks!

Yes this is common when they are starting to make a nuisance of themselves. I was a nurse for 26 years and varicose veins were the bane of my life, because of all the standing and walking I had to do. I had them stripped twice but they still came back! 🙄

I believe they have much better treatments these days - but not necessarily on the NHS.

I have veiny legs too, developed them after having anorexia as a teen and my skin became very thin, it was almost like the fat layer between skin and veins disappeared, and sadly never came back even when I became a normal weight again.
They look quite varicose like on the calves, but aren’t technically (had them doppler scanned) they are more like weightlifters legs after exercise, all veiny and protruding but not like a sack of worms. I hate them. Never wear skirts without tights, and am very self conscious.

Anyway, you have my sympathy as it’s horrible to feel we have to hide our legs away. I don’t find that mine ache really though, but I know it is common thing. The only time might be if I’m on my feet all day and it’s very hot - heat doesn’t help, I’m just a bag of veins when it’s hot.

You might want to try some compression tights or stockings - they are a lot nicer now and less surgical than they used to be.

I’ve tried all sorts for mine - supplements, various creams etc, nothing has improved them, and they seem a bit worse as I get older and skin gets even thinner.

Hope you get responses as I’d like to know any tips for veiny legs too.

Mine ache too I’ve had them done twice now and I noticed a little one back this morning I’m trying to lose a little weight to help ( I’m a few pounds over bmi) as I know that helps with the aches
