Should clarify it was an electric fence on a farm to keep horses in their field. I accidentally touched it with hand. Felt strong shock / buzz in thsy hand and jumped back immediately. Obviously now panicking re baby. Am 17 weeks

I did, I was much further along maybe 8 months or so and it hurt to buggery. I was chasing my dog and climbed through the horses electric fence. Not sure what I was thinking.

I could feel the baby moving, live rurally so never even got checked out. My now 3 year old is absolutely fine. If you are worried do get checked out.

Thank you @byvirtue. too rural to get checked out tonight but now worrying myself! Google is not full of good news! But I am hoping that's because only bad outcomes get reported / discussed and that in reality there are loads of people out there this happened to who never even reported it etc Grin. Congrats on your 3yr old

I got a shock from a dodgy plug on a pair of hair straighteners when I was around 20 weeks with ds2. I wasn't feeling much movement at that stage anyway with him, so I went in to get checked, and he was fine.
He's 10 now and perfectly healthy!

I remember freaking myself out reading things on the internet at the time.

Thank you

Yep, I was shocked a couple times when setting up the horses electric fencing when pregnant.

Baby and I were totally fine

Goldrill · 07/06/2021 23:15

Yeah; had a job involving electricity and inadvertently zapped myself fairly impressively at about 7 months. No problems; she's 10.

The current in an electric fence is very low so I’d be surprised if it would do any damage. It is the voltage that is high. Maybe there’s an electrician or electrical engineer that could comment.

Phew! I'll stay off Google and just read your posts till tomorrow Halo

Electricity takes the path of least resistance - which would not be through the womb! Also they are typically high voltage but very low current - the current is the bit which can be dangerous. I wouldn't worry whatsoever

Horehound · 07/06/2021 23:21

I got a shock on a fence holding my spaniel.
They are so sore I felt winded! Dog let a yelp out however she was almost 20kg and went through me then her. Your baby won't have taken the full force. I think you'll be fine

ohitssuchaperfectday · 07/06/2021 23:21

I sat on one years ago for a good five minutes - teenager, stupid and didn’t realise it was electric - wasn’t pregnant though . Didn’t feel anything apart from a vague tapping in my bum cheeks ... Friend panicked but it was fine, I think her parents said something along the lines of the shock from those things is big enough to frighten the animals but won’t harm you , I think .

Dobbyafreeelf · 07/06/2021 23:28

An electric fence is painful but not dangerous. Only time you ever need to be concerned with an electric fence is if you have a pacemaker and were caught

Dobbyafreeelf · 07/06/2021 23:30

Caught in the chest area causing it to malfunction.
Electric fences are used with all manner of creatures including pregnant stock and small animals such as chickens and rabbits. So are pretty safe.

FictionalCharacter · 07/06/2021 23:56

Electric fences are painful but harmless. Otherwise they wouldn’t be allowed in places where little children can touch them (like one of mine did!) Please don’t worry.
