To ask painters to redo this door

We’ve had some external painting done. Most of it is great but I’m not happy with the finish on the front door- I think they’ve rushed it and it looks awful. In places the paint has slightly run and it has a weird cellulite finish and seems very thick. The quote was to remove old flaking paint, prepare the door fully then paint. Can’t work out whether I’m being fussy as I don’t know much about painting. It’s definitely not what I expected though.

I think I would if you've paid for professional painters. It looks quite bobbly.

Looks terrible, also looks like they didn’t prep the door before painting.

Thank you- Good to hear others agree. Yes, professional painters- my suspicion is that they ran out of time before their next job as the other stuff they’ve done is fine. I will get them to redo it.

Is your door wooden op? If so, i would have expected them to sand it down first, undercoat, then paint - 2 coats! .

I would also expect the door furniture to have been removed and not just painted around. 😁 ( you can Brasso them then and get them looking sparkly for the newly painted door! )

Looks like a composite door - steel outer layer?

They're notoriously difficult to get a smooth finish on because the metal is smooth; it's why cars are spray painted not brushed. There are companies that will spray paint composite doors for you.

Looks like they used a roller, rather than a brush.

Somanysocks · 06/06/2021 17:59

And looks like a wooden door, should be straightforward, and should have picked the bits off as they went.

I'd be unhappy with that if I'd done it myself, let alone if I'd actually paid someone to do it.

Definitely ask for it to be redone.

YANBU. We had to get our painter around for similar reasons. It felt embarrassing as it was in our home but we felt that we’d paid the money so deserved a good service, as do you.

Brian9600 · 07/06/2021 14:03

Thanks, all. It's a wooden door.
