To be nervous for my COVID vaccine tomorrow?

hatewaitingonuniresults · 05/06/2021 23:45

I am going to a local drop in centre tomorrow first thing to get my first vaccine. I have been so worried about getting this due to all the scaremongering things I have read and I suffer massively from health anxiety. I have been so worried to the point I thought I just wasn't going to bother getting it however, have arranged childcare for my daughter and am just going to go and get it done and out the way as I feel like the waiting and awwing and ahhing is actually worse than just getting the damn thing.

I am under 30 so will either get the moderna or Pfizer.

Was anyone else nervous to get their vaccine? I'm mostly worried about the side effects, I have a full on day planned tomorrow after jag (things I can cancel)...do you think I'll need to cancel? Am I just being dramatic?

I had my first last Wednesday. I had the pfizer. I started to come down with a wet cough and sweats about 10 hours later and it has felt like a cold. Take paracetamol and ibuprofen and prepare yourself for feeling a bit under the weather, but chances are you'll be fine.

MissingTheMoonlight · 06/06/2021 00:03

I'm 31 and had Pfizer. I was also nervous after reading a few posts. I ended up with no side effects except a mildly sore arm for 24 hours. I think you're less likely to write a post if all went well.
Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones!

Wildginger · 06/06/2021 00:04

Hey how did you get on? I had mine this morning. I was waiting a long time to get it but leading up to it I was getting nervous. I have quite a sore arm now! I had pfizer.

PurpleDaisies · 06/06/2021 00:06

I was nervous because I’m bad with needles. It was totally fine. Sore arm for two days and that’s it.

Really good luck. You’ll be so relieved when it’s done. Flowers

Parkandride · 06/06/2021 00:09

I was nervous as I have a newborn so feel dreadful with lack of sleep anyway. Had a slightly sore arm, nothing else - I had moderna and DH was exactly the same. Have painkillers ready and rest up where you can but you could be totally fine.

Thanks so much everyone, feeling better about it already. Glad to hear no one suffered too much from side effects. Smile

Hope it goes well!

I had moderna this afternoon and I was also very nervous. I didn't even feel it in the end and was confused when she was pressing the cotton wool against my arm.

No nasty side effects yet but I can't lift my arm up which DP is finding funny 😂.

If that's all I get I'll be happy!

Nothing to worry about :).

imamearcat · 06/06/2021 00:40

Me and DH were both absolutely fine. Don't worry.

isettled · 06/06/2021 00:40

I had my first a few hours ago. No real side effects so far, feel a bit fuzzy headed but that could be lack of sleep and the injection site is a bit tender, I had Pfizer.

The worst part was the waiting around but it seemed fairly well organised and took about 40mins from walking in to leaving.

Anonymous48 · 06/06/2021 00:45

No. I was thrilled to get mine.

OnTheBoardwalk · 06/06/2021 00:48

I had Pfizer. Sore arm first shot (but I’ve had more painful B12 injections) and really fuzzy head. Was the same time we had several thunderstorms repeatedly so could have been that

2nd jab no issues whatsoever

Both jabs took less than 20 mins and that includes the 15 mins waiting time

AlmostSummer21 · 06/06/2021 00:50

No problem with either of mine (AZ)

I wouldn't cancel anything in advance unless it's very expensive tickets you could rebook. If it's things you could leave if you start to feel a bit off I'd just go

WhereYouLeftIt · 06/06/2021 00:52

Can I just say, given your health anxiety and that there has been a lot of scaremongering - bloody well done you for biting the bullet and arranging your vaccine FlowersSmile.

I'm an old git and got my second AstraZenaca last week, if I prod my arm quite hard I can feel a small tender lump but have had no other side-effects.

maddening · 06/06/2021 01:01

I had moderna, just an achy arm for 1 day for me.

AnotherSunrise · 06/06/2021 01:07

You'll be fine

littleredsky · 06/06/2021 01:08

I had the Moderna on Tuesday, I was anxious as I didn't know what to expect at the vaccination centre (it's a large one) and I was going on my own. There were so many stewards and volunteers, it was such a smooth process I think the longest part was the 15 minute wait after the jab! My arm was slightly sore the next day but that's the only side effect I had. My partner had the Pfizer on Thursday and he's been right as rain since.

Aquamarine1029 · 06/06/2021 01:12

It's totally normal to be nervous, but I assure you you'll be just fine! I've had both of my Moderna jabs and it's been brilliant.

hazandduck · 06/06/2021 01:19

I feel the same, OP! Got Pfizer booked for next Saturday. I have a fear of vomiting and a couple of people I know have been sick after having it. So
I am really scared.

But my DH had it last week and all he got was a sore arm and a very mild headache that was probably from dehydration and not related to the jab.

Best of luck! We’ve got this!

LoveFall · 06/06/2021 01:26

Funnily enough, I felt nervous too, even though I am a huge proponent of vaccines.

It went like clockwork. I didn't even feel it. I had a sore arm for a couple of days but really the only noticeable effect was relief that I was on the road to being protected.

I have my second coming up in two weeks and couldn't be happier.

You will be fine.

Lipz · 06/06/2021 01:26

I had Pfizer and I had myself practically in a state from reading posts on here. People I know who have gotten their vaccine it was 50/50 re getting side effects and getting none.

Everyone reacts differently getting vaccines etc I'm the type that if there's a 1% chance of a side effect I'll get it.

I only had a sore upper arm, at times it was painful to lift my arm but it wasn't hugely painful, that lasted the day I got it and the next day it was only a small bit sore to touch.

I did get a crazy tiredness, it was about 4 hours later, I had a lie down for 2 hours and was grand, then later that evening this tiredness came over me again and was impossible to fight, I went to bed for 1.5 hours, had the deepest sleep and was grand after.

Youaremysunshine09 · 06/06/2021 02:07

I am 29 and got moderna on Thursday, I suffer from health anxiety really bad.

Jag was fine, slight pinch & it's over. Felt fine all day until about 12 hours after jag. Felt like I had a hangover, had sweats, chills and my body was sore. Took paracetamol and was fine by the morning Smile.

Good luck, you will be fine.

hatewaitingonuniresults · 06/06/2021 09:25

Got it! So glad it's over, was given the Pfizer, hopefully not too bad side effects.
