Hot weather.... the machines can only work to certain temps. Get too hot it becomes dangerous to serve them.. bacteria etc.. Confused

newnortherner111 · 05/06/2021 17:09

Surely real ice cream is available locally?

Really? That's madness if they can't sell ice cream on warms days when people will actually want it.

A few of my students (when I was teaching) worked at McDonald’s. They said if the machine isn’t working, it’s almost always because it’s blocked and no one can be bothered to clean it all out. Perhaps that’s more likely to happen in hot weather. Although, countries with much hotter weather than ours have McDonald’s and seem to manage

MyDcAreMarvel · 05/06/2021 17:13

They don’t want to get the mixture and put it in the machine.

PreservativeFree · 05/06/2021 17:22

DS is just home from his shift in McDonalds and says no problems with supply or machines operating in hot temps.

They do have a run on demand and struggle to keep the machine topped up when it's busy and the sun is out.

Andylion · 05/06/2021 17:24

Years ago I worked at Dairy Queen. We used to be extra busy on really hot days and often had problems with ice cream being too soft. It was impossible to get that lovely three level effect and we couldn't dip them. I always thought it was because the machines couldn't keep up with demand. (The "ice cream" arrived at the store in liquid form in bags and was chilled in the machine.)

Carrotinsaladiswrong · 05/06/2021 17:29

They definetly do struggle in hot temps I worked there myself. You’re only meant to pull one flurry every 30 seconds and you can imagine in this heat with the demand that isn’t a realistic wait time inbetween and the machine can’t handle it.

Carrotinsaladiswrong · 05/06/2021 17:31

The exact same reasons slush puppy’s are suddenly liquid gold in hot weather. Same reason you can’t put a fridge infront of a radiator. Machines only work so far.

GorgeousNightingale · 05/06/2021 17:31

Gross. Why not buy something else?

Crappyfridays7 · 05/06/2021 17:33

I find McDonald’s ice cream a bit watery but it’s often off here my kids like it and the ice cream van doesn’t come near us so we do often get a McFlurry but I do like a caramel sundae. Guess what I want now.
Hope they are back on soon op

TotorosCatBus · 05/06/2021 17:40

Caramel sundaes were taken off the menu a couple of years ago iirc

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 05/06/2021 18:00

Can you remember when they did hot fudge sundaes? 🤤

Confusedandshaken · 05/06/2021 18:05

I've given up on Mcflurrys since they discontinued the Dairy Milk ones. ☹️

4PawsGood · 05/06/2021 18:06

It’s not that hot surely?

Brute · 05/06/2021 18:08

Nice Italian Ice Cream from Iceland (2 for £3).

Chasanddive · 05/06/2021 18:12

Ours sells McFlurrys but never any milkshake

What's McDonald's ice cream made of, plastic?
Feelingbad2 · 05/06/2021 18:21

We’ve been today and had ice cream

BrownEyedGirl80 · 05/06/2021 18:22

I had a lovely large strawberry milkshake earlier

SilverDragonfly1 · 05/06/2021 18:24

Haha, I know this one! The machines are very proprietary but the main issue is the cleaning cycle. It lasts for hours overnight and has to reach specific temperatures for very specific amounts of time. If the temperature is even 1 degree off at any time, the cleaning cycle is considered by the machine to have failed and it can't be operated until another cycle has been done. Various things can cause it to be off temperature, mainly involving how much ice-cream has been left inside.

Additionally, there's no screen on the machine with a definitive code for troubleshooting, so someone has to come out to service even though most times it just needs another cleaning cycle. As cycles are so long, it will then be out of service for the rest of the day even after the mechanic has been.

Toddlerteaplease · 05/06/2021 22:33

We got our McFlurries and I was very restrained and didn't have a meal as well!
McDonald's ice cream is cheaper than going to the hospital shop for an ice cream. And Costa had run out of ice, again. Every single time the temperature goes above 18oc they run out. Angry

@4PawsGood it was 28oc on the ward today.

4PawsGood · 05/06/2021 22:47

Yeah but that’s not an unusual temperature. Smile

Davros · 05/06/2021 23:10

DH ate it all
