Can I return clothes given as a gift

Sorry. Posted elsewhere with zero replies.

Friend has given me clothes from Joules as a gift. They just don't suit me me but I don't want to say to her.

Can I return the clothes to a Joules store for a gift receipt or refund or swap for something else without proof of purchase?

Anyone know?

I would try. Otherwise stick them on an auction site .

Spied · 04/06/2021 11:08

I think you'll need proof of purchase otherwise you could have just bought them off an auction site and are trying it on.

If the tags are still on you should be able to exchange. Or just tell your friend they don't fit and you need to change

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 11:11

You could ask the person who gave them you for a receipt. Tricky but it might work. You could say they are a little bit too big/small.

Mrsjayy · 04/06/2021 11:12

if it has tags on id try it, I've taken clothes back elsewhere and I got a gift card.

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 11:32

I took a gift item of clothing to a shop hoping for a refund or exchange and was told it was a few years old.

Maireas · 04/06/2021 11:34

Give them to a charity shop.

Oh no a " regift* Shock op maybe do as suggested and ask your friend for the receipt

MushroomRisotto · 04/06/2021 11:36

Yes you will be able to return for an exchange or gift card without a receipt, but it will only be at the current selling price I work for this company so I know this for sure

lastqueenofscotland · 04/06/2021 11:44

Could you really politely ask for the receipt
Something along the lines of

“Thanks so much for the clothes, I love joules, but they don’t fit quite right could I pester for the receipt so I can change a few bits”

I’d not be put out at all.

Take your chances and ask Joules if you can exchange or have a gift card.

I've exchanged many things in Next without a receipt.
But I've also had the experience of a repackaged jewellery item in a Next box, took it back to Next but Next didn't sell gold coloured jewellery, so I suspect the giver repackaged it Blush

LagneyandCasey · 04/06/2021 11:56

I would be honest with your friend. What if she notices you never wear the clothes? Plus she might buy you clothes again and you'll have the same dilemma.

Better to say something along the lines of 'Sorry Pam, I'm a fussy old thing, my bum/hips/boobs look a bit odd in those items. Would you mind giving me the receipt so I can return them and try on something else?'

I think it's a bit odd to buy someone something as personal as clothes tbh.

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 12:10

@Mrsjayy, I don't think it was a regift. The person who gave it me had form for passing on unwanted purchases, often with no regard to size or suitability.

ILoveShula · 04/06/2021 12:11

I only ever give clothes to people who I know love getting clothes. I don't give clothes to other people's children/babies

HelpMeh · 04/06/2021 12:12

You should be able to return them for exchange/voucher, however if you don't have the receipt then you'll only be offered their current value.

southernbelles · 04/06/2021 12:41

I gave a friend a dress as a birthday gift that she had pointed out when we were shopping. It ended up not suiting her so she told me (very apologetically!) and I returned it & got something else, wasn't a problem 🤷‍♀️
