Hi

I need to format a report tonight and I’m about to chuck my laptop out of the window!!

I’ve attached a photo....how do I get the heading in yellow to start at same left indent as the numbers, but then continue the auto numbering below afterwards? I can’t seem to do it, if I do manage to get it there it then stops auto numbering underneath ... arghhhhh!!

Thank you so much if anyone can help!! Google isn’t helping!

Make sure rulers are showing, highlight those 2 lines and then move the tab marker on the ruler to the left.

If you have this in the print layout view
Can you see the bar at the top? Highlight what you want to move and move this little cursor on the ruler to where you want to move it to

Ok I will try that thank you!! That won’t change the indent of the numbers?

Also I’m in the online version (share point) is it best if I’m in the desktop version of word?

Always use the desktop app rather that the browser version if you can, you lose lost of formatting functionality in the browser version.

Well it may change them but you can just drag them all back using the little toolbar cursors

Menora · 03/06/2021 18:24

I do this all the time especially in tables where I don’t want a massive indent to save space

Kokapetl · 03/06/2021 18:25

Use decrease indent in the section on the home tab with only the bit you want to change highlighted . Make sure you have already got the numbering continuing below and the spacing correct before doing this.

Another option is to do it your way then right click on the numbering if it starts at 1. then select restart numbering.

Thank you all Smile
