To ask for you all to cheer me on a bit please?

I applied for a job on Friday at the local council...only two days per week but would bring me much needed income and potentially a bit of security as I've been freelancing for years and am growing a bit weary and so losing interest in finding work.

I realised I needed to up my income. I've been applying for jobs on and off for two years...only had one interview.

The council rang today (I'm in Oz) and the woman told me that she wanted to let me know I've been shortlisted and that I was in the top selection.

She said there'd been a LOT of applications.

I am so happy I could cry. Honestly. Do you think this call meant anything? Why would she call me to say this? She said she'd be in touch again before the end of the week.

Best of luck! Sounds really promising. My cousin in Oz secured a great job for the council last year in a field she didn't have much experience. She loves it and has been life changing for her. All the best.

Well done and good luck! I suspect if you're near the top of the list then you've probably been really close on previous occasions too. It's so easy to get disheartened when job hunting, but hopefully this will be the one.

I used to work in HR and had to phone candidates to invite them in for interviews.
If we had a candidate who looked very strong on paper I would be very positive like this to encourage them to come along and hopefully not apply for other jobs in the meantime.
So it’s looking very good to me as if they are impressed with your application.
