I just got a job as a care assistant going from house to house. I’m based in north London, but live in east London. I’m not even started yet properly, getting my shifts on Monday. I was shadowing someone who was driving for 2 days last week, and it took them 10-15 mins to get to each clients. I don’t drive and was told it would be a walking distance, but I don’t believe that. For me walking distance is 10 min max , I know I’d be walking for 20-30 mins or more between each clients. I could take the bus but they don’t pay the transport or travel time. You could be doing 12 hours, and only be paid for 10 or 9 hours.
Before this job, I applied for a job in a care home, they invited me for interview but I declined as I was doing training for this job. AIBU to get back to the care home and ask if they still do interviews?
At least in the care home id be in one place and get paid for my full shift.
I was thinking of just working until Christmas and then look for a job at a care home, but honestly I just can’t do all the travelling and it’s so expensive. I don’t know what I was thinking tbh.
And in between clients I’m just going to be outside, cuz you might have a client at 8 am but your next client is not til 11am. The person I was shadowing told me this, and said at least she has a car and won’t be outside, or sometimes she just goes home but I don’t have that option.
