To think I’m being lied to about my surgery?

I’m having corrective surgery and it’s kind of specialised. I found a clinic that does it and booked a consultation. I felt rushed and at one point we were interrupted to say the next client is here. They agreed they could do it and then sent me the bill the next day for £12,000 (not the price I expected at all).

I actually found out that they were rushed my consultation as they’d booked too many people in that day and the surgeon had a train to catch Confused

Anyway I was quite dubious at this price and I said I was happy to pay but I needed to know whether I would require a skin graft. The patient coordinator refused to answer based on it being a medical question. I said that’s fine so can I just request the surgery notes made at the time of the consultation.

They said yes and I chased it up numerous times and they kept saying “we’ll send tomorrow”. Then today they turned around and said the surgeon has stated he’s now not able to do my surgery because he cannot achieve my desired results. Despite him barely enquiring about my expectations when I met him.

Aibu to think firstly it’s disgusting they sent me a bill for £12,000 when if what they are saying is true I wouldn’t have had the surgery anyway. Secondly I also believe this was a lie and that no surgery notes were taken so they had no specifics on relation to my question so took the easy way out?

Was it an invoice for payment they sent or a quote?

Losttheequipment · 28/05/2021 18:16

Must be a quote, not a bill.

SengaMac · 28/05/2021 18:19

Sounds like they are incompetent and you're well out of it.

Oh sorry I meant a quote to be paid before surgery which would have been in 3 weeks.

Sounds like you fudged a bullet there. None of this inspires confidence I must say.

Fudged?!? Dodged!!

Although I think they may have fudged the bullet had you gone ahead.

Bloody hell, no way have anything to do wiht these cowboys.

If this is UK, consider reporting the surgeon to the relevant authority. There should be no such thing as over-booking in private practice, it's not a fecking airplane.

Thank you, I’m upset because I genuinely have no idea if I’m unsuitable for surgery or they are just covering their backs and pretending I am.
