Just found a white hair on my daughter whose 5. I have seen it/another one a few times now but I just assumed maybe a thread or something else so dismissed it. I’m looking at one now and it’s white and is a strand of hair. Do I need to worry? Tried calling doctor since this afternoon but as usual not getting through

Is this a wind up? Phoning the gp for a white hair Hmm

LaLaLoopsi · 28/05/2021 17:06

Get.
A.
Grip!

ComtesseDeSpair · 28/05/2021 17:08

A single strand of white hair isn’t anything to worry about at this stage. Premature greying can be a sign of thyroid disorders or vitamin B-12 deficiency, so keep an eye on it but really no need to worry and call the doctor repeatedly today.

HavfrueDenizKisi · 28/05/2021 17:09

Really?? You called a doctor?? That's an over reaction of massive proportions.

One of my DDs has one white hair. Had it since she was a toddler. She's 10 now. She's a completely 'normal' 10'year old. She still has the white hair. She's only got one. She is not some sort of white haired elderly tween. It's ok. It's really nothing to worry about.

Very helpful telling someone who's worried to get a grip, well done.

JaninaDuszejko · 28/05/2021 17:10

DD2 had a mutant white hair when she was little (possibly 3?). She's now 12 and hasn't had another.

Inthesameboatatmo · 28/05/2021 17:11

Call the dr to make a routine appt ,try not to get yourself worked up

Anonaeee65 · 28/05/2021 17:11

@ComtesseDeSpair thank you for not patronising me. I was worried as it said it could be an indicator for autoimmune diseases and to get blood test done ASAP. That’s why I was trying to phone doctor.

It's more than likely nothing to be concerned about. Of course you can call the gp for advice if you are worried, but please try not to be. Some people are being nasty just because they can.

Anonaeee65 · 28/05/2021 17:13

@Inthesameboatatmo thank you. I cannot make appointment with doctor. I been trying fit 2 weeks for myself but there’s no appointment and they tell u to ring back next day!

Passthecake30 · 28/05/2021 17:13

I had a mutant thick black hair in my otherwise blond hair as a child. I think with the one white hair, I’d just keep a watch to see if there was any more.

Anonaeee65 · 28/05/2021 17:14

Thank you @peboh x

Idiot who said is this a wind up - just bloody google white hair in kids indicating all these different diseases!

Your child has symptoms of these 'diseases' and simply one white hair. I wouldn't be remotely worried about this. I definitely wouldn't call my GP for it. You are not wrong in saying some illnesses can cause white hairs but realistically you must know these things carry other, more obvious symptoms?

Embracelife · 28/05/2021 17:18

None of these are rushtodoctor now unless a family history of those conditions or other issues going on
www.healthline.com/health/poliosis

One single strand is noteworthy but nay not reappear.
Check again aNd if more appear see gp
If she happy and healthy then no need to panic at all

anothernewtop · 28/05/2021 17:18

Your child has NO symptoms that should say Blush

Anonaeee65 · 28/05/2021 17:19

@anothernewtop no actually I don’t. I’m not medically trained hence calling daughter and was trying to get some support on here whilst waiting.

Doctor not daughter

SummerHouse · 28/05/2021 17:20

I am sure it's nothing. Especially if she seems well.

Buzlightyear1 · 28/05/2021 17:22

Hi just wanted to say I got white hair when younger. I have been told I have vitiligo by a dr . It affects my hair and part of my face now As it’s spread. It’s not dangerous but it could also be something else. I would speak to the dr as well, it’s better to be save . I hope you and your daughter are ok.

Anonaeee65 · 28/05/2021 17:23

@Buzlightyear1 thank you x

Hi OP. I have found a couple (maybe 3) on my DD, who is now 6. I felt worried too, but just keeping an eye on things for now.
I’m amazed at the sarcastic and unhelpful posts.
