Going away for two nights tomorrow and worried about leaving my 2.5 year old

He’s going to be with his dad the whole time, but I’m worried he’ll wake up in the night and wonder where I am or in the morning get distressed and wonder where I am as he always comes in for a cuddle first thing.

I know it’s only two nights, but the closer it gets, the worse I’m feeling.

Please reassure me before I cancel on my friend Sad

Don't cancel on your friend at this late stage because he might miss a cuddle. I'd be really annoyed if I was the friend and you did this.

He's with his dad. He will be fine. Go and enjoy your weekend.

The first time I went away for a night, I felt awful as I was packing and almost pulled out but I'm so glad I didn't! It did me a lot of good to have an evening with friends and did my husband good to have some bonding time! My little one was fine. Have a lovely time with your friend.

He'll be OK OP. I did this with my super super clingy toddler and was so worried. He did look for me but we did a skype call and once he saw I was still in existence he was fine.

It's normal to be worried but you have to take that step sooner or later. Enjoy your weekend.

Checkingout811 · 28/05/2021 17:43

It’s completely normal but please don’t cancel at this late stage.
Dad and Son will have a great time, I’m sure and you can always FaceTime. Enjoy your weekend!

I’m sure he’ll be fine. When my eldest was 17 months, I went to Australia for 2 weeks for work. She and Dh had a great time.

DoubleHelix79 · 28/05/2021 18:02

I went to Kemya for several days when DD was a similar age - disappointingly she was perfectly fine and in no way traumatised. Go and enjoy your trip!

Movealongmovealong · 28/05/2021 18:07

Yep - left all three of mine , they grizzled for 5 minutes and didn't give me another thought. They will be absolutely fine and play their dad like a violin !

Custardo · 28/05/2021 18:08

just enjoy yourself

Ducksurprise · 28/05/2021 18:09

Mine, who normally wouldn't let me piss in peace, didn't even notice I was gone. Go, enjoy yourself, its beneficial for everyone

TheGumption · 28/05/2021 18:16

It will honestly be completely fine. You deserve to enjoy yourself. Go.

eatsleepread · 28/05/2021 19:36

Your child will be absolutely fine. To be honest though, if I were your friend, I'd find it more annoying if you pined after your child the whole time than cancelling.
Go and have a lovely time!

I was expecting you to say you were leaving him with family for the first time or something. But he’s going to be at home, with his other parent! So I voted YABU. You’d be a terrible friend to cancel.
