Black Mains Plugs For White Sockets?

This may be a first world problem, but why do so many appliances come with black mains plugs when most sockets are white? Do manufacturers want them to hit you in the face?

White plastic looks tatty and horrible very quickly, especially on kitchen appliances. An electricity outlet is never going to look pretty though. The reason most sockets are white is because white is cheapest and most people putting in sockets don't care. If they care, they can pay the extra for black or metal surrounds for the sockets. Most people buying appliances do care about quality and having a non-white electricity cable and plug will add to a general impression of quality - versions with white plugs and wires will be perceived as cheap-looking.

Not something I've ever thought about, and looking at my kitchen all of the flex & plugs are white with the exception of the microwave (which is in a cupboard anyway) and the tv.
[Most of my appliances are definitely on the cheaper side 🤣]

We have metal surrounds and black look nice on them, well as nice as a socket can look

Good grief

We have silver sockets in the kitchen, and all my kitchen appliances (kettle, mixer, food processor, blender Etc.) have black plugs.

I suppose that’s why most electrical sockets elsewhere in the house are positioned so as to be concealed by the furniture as far as possible...
