I've had a challenging few years and am currently feeling down but would like to snap out of it . I know many on Mumsnet have done some incredible things with their lives/overcome significant hurdles and would be very grateful if you could share your experiences. Thank you

Background: I have cared for my disabled father since I was a teenager (no siblings, parents divorced). He died last year in very distressing circumstances. I lost my job (couldn't travel as required) as he was dying and have had to shield all year (no family or friends nearby to bubble with). My GP has issued ADs but I've had to pay for therapy which is expensive so its been a bit ad hoc. I have applied for jobs but not been successful - my examples are apparently from too long ago (was caring for Dad more recently). Anyway am trying to remain positive, I know there are many who have had it much worse and would love to hear your inspirational stories. Thank you.

Sounds like you have been having a tough time. Flowers I don't know if my story will help, but I hope it will. I had a reasonably well paid job, then my mental health plummeted and I ended up in a mental health unit. I knew I wouldn't be able to cope with my job any more and resigned. But I didn't have a clue what I was going to do next. While I was thinking about that, two separate things happened. Firstly Flog It held a valuation day near where I live. I'd been struggling to leave home due to anxiety and was looking for fun things to do that would acclimatise me to leaving home so I went along. My item was chosen to be on the programme and I had a great time at the auction! I started to go along to other local auctions to watch. The 2nd thing was we finally sold my late father's house and had to clear it. I had more time on my hands than my brothers so I put myself in charge and did most of it. I decided to sell a lot of the stuff we weren't keeping. And that was when my new business was born! I am now a full time antique and vintage dealer. I don't earn anywhere near what I used to, but its enough and I love it! Don't give up, seize the opportunities that come your way and don't be afraid to think outside the box! Good luck!

Thank you for taking the time to respond- it really means a lot.

Sounds like you have done amazingly! Coincidentally my Dad used to sell antiques at Portobello Market (as a second job) - he loved it!! Getting to meet lots of different people, outside in the fresh air and being your own boss. He was very happy doing that. I had a very well paid job (for over 20 years) but hated it. I keep thinking things happen for a reason - hopefully something good will come along soon. Thanks again
