Receiving Gifts

Does anyone else feel nothing but awkward, undeserving, and guilty when given gifts? And if so why? I can't work out why I react as I do, but I absolutely dread being given or sent anything and always feel I'm either too gushing or not grateful enough.

I know what you mean. I'd rather give a present than receive one most of the time I think.

God yes I hate getting gifts (except from DH or the kids). DH's family are all very emotive when opening gifts too so if you don't have a huge reaction they think you hate it, so I end up being really ott and fake even when it's a gift I genuinely love.

I love giving gifts but absolutely hate receiving them.

Had my birthday last month and told my family and friends I really didn't need any more stuff. I felt like crying when presented with a pile of stuff I didn't want, need or ask for and now need to find a home to store. Being handed a wrapped present when I don't know what's in it fills me with dread.

I also hate receiving gifts through the post or being sent anything by courier, and then being obligated to give the correct amount of thanks within the acceptable amount of time. I find it stressful.

I know it sounds ungrateful but receiving gifts does not make me happy in the slightest.

I hate receiving gifts too. I have repeatedly asked for people not to buy me presents, yet they never listen. I then have to put on some over the top performance of how grateful I am for some load of crap I didn't want.
Christmas is particularly bad, if we have to go to the in laws. They only give one gift out at a time, so everyone sits staring at you whilst you open your unwanted gift. Everybody gets multiple presents so it goes on for hours.
