To wonder if they've been abducted by aliens?

I booked some new windows to be fitted on 29th March.

After various excuses and delays, they said they could fit them on Monday 24th. I said it wasn't convenient, but today would be fine. They agreed to the date without any hesitation.

So I'm sitting here with all my curtains taken down. I don't normally get up until about 10.30am, but I know workmen usually start at 8am, so I've been jerking awake at the slightest noise since 5 am, and up and dressed since 7am. I'm exhausted already.

WHERE ARE MY EFFING WINDOWS?????

I wondered if Mumsnet could suggest some light-hearted reasons why my window people haven't arrived yet!

It's 08:55 and you've posted this under the assumption that you "know workmen usually start at 8am"

There’s a big queue at McDonalds.

Our fitters arrived after closer to 10. They actually said to us that they would come later as they would pop to collect windows in the morning not the evening before.

Sorry posted too soon. The next day one fitter arrived at 9.15 but the other closer to 11. ( he said some family emergency) He actually has done a better job.

They will be assuming you are psychic and that a phone all is therefore unnecessary. They know you already know they are:
Picking up latches/glass/frames/locks/tools/breakfast en-route and will be with you when they’ve sorted it.

If they aren’t needing any of the above they know you are aware they have to finish the last job off first as the customer is driving them mad phoning all the time to ask when they’re going to finish their windows.

If they aren’t doing that they are taking the family gerbil to the vet for it’s covid jab as all rodents are now eligible for a vaccine (group 25 on list after rabbits).
