To ask next door not to do DIY

Next-door started drilling and sawing at 7:30 this evening and are still at it now. I wouldn't mind so much but they were both at home all day today.
My 11 month old can't settle as we're semi detached and even though he's not right next to it, it's loud.
I don't complain loads. They have a dog who barks virtually all day and I've never complained. Nor would I complain if my son could sleep but it seems inconsiderate to do DIY in the evening when they know we have a baby.
My husband said leave it as they'll stop soon anyway. I expect I'll be told I'm being unreasonable and they can do what they want in their own house.
Am I BU to ask /expect them to stop?

If you're in the UK and its gone 8pm and they're doing DIY and keeping your baby up then YANBU to ask them to stop. Do you get along with them?

Rosebel · 25/05/2021 21:25

Yes we get along fine with them I just get a bit worried about complaining.
I wasn't sure if it was me or them being unreasonable.

If they don't normally make a noise like this I would just leave it tonight. If they keep making a noise each evening maybe you could speak to them.

If it's a one off i would just leave it. If it become a more regular occurred then let them know it is disturbing the baby, they may not have realised.

Im very non confrontational so I would probably say to them, hi- just wondering how long the diy project is going on for? I think it’s unsettling ds in his room so we might have to think about switching if it is going long term

If it’s just this eve I’d leave it, itcould possibly be something urgent if they started at this time. If it carries on tomorrow get yourself round and tell them to save it for more sociable hours.

We’re in a semi and we’ve had new neighbours move in today. I’m normally asleep by this time but they’re still banging around, I’m putting it down as a one off but I’ll go round if it continues tomorrow at this time of night.
