with regards to paying the builder?

I am having my bathroom renovated, which has been a bit of a disaster along the way, one way or another!
I had bought my suite, and was given a price. I asked if there would be anything left to pay, he said there wasn't, and it was confirmed we would not pay for the adhesive when we asked this.
he went back on this when he came to start the job, however both me and my partner stood firm, and he then agreed to pay for the adhesive himself.
he has since bought several receipts over to me for payment if other bits and materials that he needs to complete the job.
Am I right in thinking that if the quote was to include everything, then I should only pay what was quoted? if I had budgeted to the penny, there would be no room for leeway.
I am more than happy to pay if it is the done thing, but dont want to feel I have been 'had' at the same time..have had poor luck with builders generally!

If you where given a quote and confirmed that there would be nothing else to pay then i can't see how it would be your responsibility to cover the odd receipts now, adhesives ect should have been listed with your suite as things you needed to purchase if they wanted you to provide them

When we had our bathroom done our builder, went through what we were going to buy and added a few things to the list. He was then very clear he wouldn’t be charging us for any additional materials - but did say it was common for other builders to do so. I think if you asked and it was made clear there were no extras to be added on then they should honour that agreement.
