To detest 'enjoy'

3Britnee · 22/05/2021 14:55

Aibu I"m not though to be sick in my mouth a little bit every time I read 'enjoy' on here? I keep seeing it more and more.

Enjoy your children op.
I bought snacks for us all to enjoy.
DH and I enjoy the occasional film.
We enjoy conversation at the dinner table.

It makes me cringe inside out, and sounds wanky as fuck.

It's almost as bad as 'super'.

Is anyone else tired of being ‘Welcomed’?
Schools are ‘welcoming back’ their pupils.
I was welcomed back in Home Sense.
On the news, ‘ Pubs and restaurants will be welcoming drinkers..’. Enough.

Vodkaandballoon · 22/05/2021 17:36

Dear me who pissed on all you lots chips. You can all go out now you don't have to sit around thinking up trivial bollocks to 'detest'

SilverNotGold · 22/05/2021 17:37

I also hate 'Enjoy' 😄.

TheWitchersWife · 22/05/2021 17:50

I have read all versions of the use of 'enjoy' which range from acceptable to muggy cunt territory and I don't really see the difference Confused

PastaLaVistaBBY · 22/05/2021 17:52

This is one of the weirder bugbears I’ve seen on here, I must admit!

m0therofdragons · 22/05/2021 18:19

People make the English language hard to use. Reading this makes me want to give up on speaking for fear I’ll piss someone off or be judged.

silvercats · 22/05/2021 18:29

Oh god, the BBC had a phase of enjoy over lockdown - “When will people be able to ENJOY a pint?” Angry “Here is Mavis ENJOYING a socially-distanced walk.” Angry I don’t know why it annoys me, but it really does.

cakewench · 22/05/2021 19:35

"lashings of"

absolutely not.

If anyone seriously judges you for using certain words or phrases, they're not worth talking to.

But to me 'muggy' means humid weather, so what do I know?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/05/2021 19:58

I thought “muggy” meant weather that is hot and with high humidity. Confused

newnortherner111 · 22/05/2021 20:12

OP I agree, you had forgotten overuse of 'big' and 'little', literally used too much and not amazing at all. You need not feel sorry, or should I say sincerely or very sorry for raising this.

Goodebe · 22/05/2021 20:14

Hahahaaa yes and I despise the word ‘treat’ As in I bought some expensive cheese for myself as a treat - Vom

M0rT · 22/05/2021 20:22

I'm another one who thought muggy meant warm humid weather, what does it mean in the context of "muggy cunt"?
Enjoy doesn't bother me, curated outside of an art gallery is irritating alright.

maddiemookins16mum · 22/05/2021 20:52

It always makes me cringe when the Masterchef contestants plonk a plate of uncooked lamb in front of the guest judges and say ‘enjoy’.
It’s ruined that word for me.

Clumsyvolcano · 22/05/2021 21:13

Sick to death of hearing the word ‘unprecedented’ since the beginning of the pandemic!

It has calmed down now but it was being said about 100 times a day at the beginning every time the news was on! Surely they could have mixed it up a bit by using synonyms 🤣

Isitsixoclockalready · 22/05/2021 21:19

I must admit that I can't see anything triggering in the word 'enjoy' personally.

Isitsixoclockalready · 22/05/2021 21:20

First time I remember hearing it was in the film: Football Factory.
Chicchicchicchiclana · 22/05/2021 21:23

Yanbu. It gives me the rage and I want to shout "fuck OFF" right back at everyone who says it.

TedsWeeDonkey · 22/05/2021 21:27

Enjoy doesn't bother me at all. Hun, lush and create pronounced 'crate' however give me the rage.

madroid · 22/05/2021 21:33

@M0rT presumably the implication is that the cunt is muggy eg warm and humid? Which presumably is meant in a pejorative way?

But muggy cunt is a new one on me. Always like hearing new insults, so creative or crate Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 22/05/2021 21:37

YANBU to have a disdain towards certain words. I have some, probably most people do.

"enjoy" is not a word I'd ever consider offensive, unless it's said in a way that I'd want to reply " of course I will enjoy crocheting all weekend you knob. if I didn't, I wouldn't do it. I don't need your permission."

Tooshytoshine · 22/05/2021 21:42

Sometimes when I say "enjoy!" is ironic. But to say "endure!" seems a little harsh...

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 22/05/2021 21:43

@madroid

In case you haven't seen or heard I offer "shut your whore mouth" and "lick a cactus you musty bitch"
I was on a glorious Rare Insults FB group last year. I learnt so much 🤣

What does muggy mean in this context?! Muggy cunt? Hot and damp? I feel old.
