Nervous about Pfizer jab?

wishes1111 · 21/05/2021 15:11

Hello all

I am getting my first jab tonight, I am 28 and have an autoimmune disease, I am grateful to have been invited for the first vaccination.

I'm a bit nervous about after as I've had flu 3 times and I think I've developed a bit of a fear or flu like symptoms as I was hospitalised each time (once for swine flu).

I've stocked up on paracetamol, I know I could be one of the lucky ones who do not experience any flu symptoms but is there anything else I should get or prepare for? If anybody has any experiences they can share I'd be really grateful!

Thank you in advance x

I also have an autoimmune disease and had the pfizer jab yesterday. No ill effects whatsoever except a sore arm. Hope it's the same for you.

Bells3032 · 21/05/2021 15:16

I've had both pfizers and literally had a mildly achy arm for a day or two. My DH, Dad, FIL and Step-mum have all had. the worst anyones had was an achy arm

listsandbudgets · 21/05/2021 15:18

I've had both jabs now (Pfizer)

I had a slightly sore arm the first time and really sore arm the second time [grin[ Other than that nothing.

Hope it goes alright for you

Echobelly · 21/05/2021 15:19

I had pfizer - I got a sore arm and thought I was over it and then probably overworked myself a few days later and was a little bit tired and achey for a few days after that but it was OK.

MrsTulipTattsyrup · 21/05/2021 15:19

Nobody I know has had side effects from the Pfizer jab! Lucky sausages. We had AZ and had flu-like symptoms for less than 24 hours. I understand your fear, but if you can keep your logical brain telling you that it might feel like flu but it isn’t, you’re not actually I’ll, and it will quickly pass, then it should help you ride it out. You might find that the worst of it goes over while you sleep, too.

Just think how much worse it would be to be in hospital with Covid.

Hagqueen · 21/05/2021 15:21

I took paracetemol a little before having my Pfizer. Made sure to drink lots of water through the day and ate a good lunch and also topped up paracetemol later in the day.

I was fine on the day, the next day I had the achey arm and some tiredness and the odd headache, that was solved with painkillers. Day after that - absolutely fine.

I deffo think the food and water helped!

Voomster953 · 21/05/2021 15:27

I had it last week. No side effects at all. I don’t know anyone that has had side effects with it, either. The doctor said fatigue is the most comment but nearly everyone tolerates it well.

Voomster953 · 21/05/2021 15:28

I did drink lots before, during and after though, just in case.

ILoveMyMonkey · 21/05/2021 15:30

I had Pfizer last Friday and no side effects other than achy arm. Dh had it yesterday, also fine, mum too. You’ll be fine.

I took paracetemol a little before having my Pfizer.. I think the advise is not to take paracetamol beforehand but just to take it after if needed.

wishes1111 · 21/05/2021 15:31

Thanks very much everyone!

I had it earlier this week, I didn’t feel a thing and only had a sore arm which didn’t even last 24 hr

Goodtohear · 21/05/2021 15:37

Dc1 had pfizer due to age and has autoimmune disease. The only side effect he had was a sore arm. Had less side effects than having flu or pneumonia vaccine.

Kayjay2018 · 21/05/2021 15:38

@wishes1111 I had Pfizer jab on Wednesday morning, I have psoriasis and a multi connective tissue disorder (they don't know whether lupus of Sjögren's as it's inactive at the moment). I expected to have a response to the vaccine, all I have had is a sore arm and I was really tired later that evening.

I hope all goes well!

EdgeOfACoin · 21/05/2021 15:39

I had my first Pfizer jab this week. I had an achey arm the following day and couldn't lift it very high. Today (two days later) it is slightly achey but not much. I expect it will be gone by tomorrow.

No other side effects.

Puppylucky · 21/05/2021 15:46

I had no side effects after the first Jab but was a bit poorly after the second - upset stomach and vomiting plus a mild headache and fatigue for a few days. All better now though!

Grizalda · 21/05/2021 15:48

I had mine yesterday, just a sore arm. I actually feel a bit knackered too, but let's face it - it's Friday afternoon and I have four kids. It's probably not the vaccine but not horrific it it is 🤷🏽‍♀️

CadburyCake · 21/05/2021 15:49

Very painful arm for a couple of days (far more so than any other vaccine I’ve had) and felt a bit tired and off colour for 36 hours. Nothing debilitating.

TuesdayRuby · 21/05/2021 15:50

I also had it this week and was feeling a bit nervous beforehand. It went really well. Barely felt it go in! Had a sore arm that came on a few hours later and lasted about 24hrs. Felt a bit tired the next day with a very mild headache (not even paracetamol worthy) but by the evening felt much better!

RitaFires · 21/05/2021 15:53

I'm having my second Pfizer next week. My arm felt sore after a few hours and it lasted into the next day but I didn't have any other ill effects from the first dose.

Whitewolf2 · 21/05/2021 16:15

I had Pfizer a couple of days ago, wasn’t expecting my arm to hurt as much! Could hardly lift it for a day so definitely don’t get it in dominant arm! Aside from that I just felt tired the next day, no cold/flu symptoms.

Shorthairlady · 21/05/2021 16:26

Had the Pfizer one yesterday and no side effects. No sore arm either. Even went for a run this morning.

LakieLady · 21/05/2021 16:29

I've had both shots of Pfizer and no ill-effects save for a bit of soreness around the vaccination site for a few hours.

WingingItEveryDay7 · 21/05/2021 16:34

I had my 1st Pfizer jab yesterday and had a really achey arm. This morning I woke up with a slightly raised temperature, arm felt like it was going to fall off, pins and needles in my hand and very fatigued. 9 hours later and my hand still feels very strange, hard to describe but I have to keep moving my fingers before they seize up. No one I know has reacted this way to it... We're all different and will depend on any underlying illness too I'd guess x

superduster · 21/05/2021 16:35

I had a sore arm for a couple of days and felt really tired the following day - no cold/flu type symptoms at all.

CutieBear · 21/05/2021 16:42

I know several people in their 20s and 30s who were sick for at least a week after having the first AZ jab (they haven’t had the second). As in bedridden, vertigo, vomiting and freezing cold. A friend’s cousin (30s, healthy) developed a blood clot and was hospitalised. I don’t know anyone who has had the Pfizer jab though.
