Looking for pendant lights for my living room, dining room & hallway. Everything nice needs a really low wattage bulb.
I hate those stupidly white lights & want something warm. But AUBU to also want to be able to see???

Do we still count light in watts, now that incandescent bulbs are no longer sold? Modern low energy bulbs don’t produce heat as a byproduct, and I always thought that was the reason for the wattage limits. Their light is expressed in lumens. I have bulbs which give the equivalent of 100 watts of light fitted in some older lamps which had a limit of 60w, with no ill effects. They stay cold in use.

I am prepared for someone with a scientific understanding of this to come and tell me why I am dicing with death.

I have the wrong kind of science in my head, but watching with interest because I do the same and thought the same!

Well @MrsTulipTattsyrup if that's the case I'd be very happy!

DH won't let me out a higher bulb in than it says on the fitting. Because he thinks I'll start a fire! 🙄

We need an expert. Send up the (low-wattage) Batsignal!

If the new bulbs dont give off heat why are mine always failing in my wall lights. They are of the recom mended strength. All these new bulbs that are supposed to be long life and energy efficient dont seem to last as long as the old bulbs

I’d suspect your wall fittings are the issue, then. I have some energy saving bulbs which must be more than 10 years old. Maybeit’s time to get your wiring checked?
