Am I cursed or doing something wrong?!

DH and I are celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary next week - and I have just got through my FOURTH engagement ring!!
Ring 1: Stone fell out and I lost it. It wasn't a massively expensive ring, just a few hundred pounds so we cut our losses and bought a second one.
Ring 2: More expensive ring, I was mugged and it was stolen. Luckily, it was insured so we took the insurance pay out (put some more money in because we were in a better financial position) and bought the next ring.
Ring 3: In a job interview, must've been more nervous than I thought because the band snapped straight through. Went back to the store we bought it from and they repaired it.
Ring 4: Survived until last night when I was playing with my dog. Her tooth got caught in the band and as she pulled away, she bent it completely out of shape.
Am I doing something wrong or does everyone get through this many rings? Growing up, my mum wore hers every day and never replaced it - are rings worse quality or am I missing something here? Or am I just cursed?

What metal was it? Higher carat gold is softer and more prone to damage so that could be an issue?

No idea otherwise - I'm really heavy handed and break/chip my nails all the time but my ring has survived so far! And the stone's an emerald which I know are supposed to be more prone to damage - watch me break it now I've said this...!

hope that your dog is OK

It's 18K white gold. Maybe that's the issue? Still doesn't explain my bad luck with ring 1 and ring 2 though haha.

Thank you - she's fine. She has jaws like an alligator - she was just too vigorous taking a treat from my hand and one of her long teeth snagged under the ring. I'm not sure she even noticed to be honest with you.

The universe is trying to tell you something...

Was the dogs teeth ok?

Rillington · 20/05/2021 20:24

I've never known anyone have more than one engagement ring. Mine has lasted 25 years and my DM's 50+.

GhostCurry · 20/05/2021 20:26

All the people concerned about the dog’s teeth 🙄

My rings have outlasted one marriage!

Platinum is the way to go.

What kind of job were you interviewing for? Feeding sharks? What the hell were you doing with your hands?

My brother had a platinum wedding band and it did outlast his marriage (they separated after four months)

Haha, I don't even know. I was just sat there and felt it just grind and snap in my hand. I got the job though so that's a bonus!

My diamond fell out of the prong setting whilst at a bowling alley! Found it under the bench seat!

Gingernaut · 20/05/2021 22:11

Wear it on a short chain around your neck.

I'm on my second - the first was stolen when our house was burgled. I'm not allowed to wear it at work so it was in a drawer by my bed - the bastards stole the actual drawer so not only did I have to replace all my jewellery (though that ring was the only thing of any significant monetary value) I had to get a new chest of drawers. So far, so good with no.2 though!
