To think DCS Patricia Carmichael (LOD) and Julia (Motherland) are one and the same?

I've built up a little fantasy in my head that DCS Carmichael is the same person as Julia from Motherland.

At work she's the po-faced, smug Patricia hell bent on destroying AC12, has a personal agenda against Ted Hastings and a killer repertoire of sarky put downs.

However, her ice calm exterior at work is just a facade. At home, she's constantly nagging after her kids, doing a mad dash to school late every day and drowning in laundry.

The fact that Anna Maxwell Martin plays both roles makes this transition a seamless one (for me, at least).

Sarah Millican said the same on the LOD podcast and now as I am watching Motherland series 3 it’s all I can think about Grin

I think shes great switching from comedy to serious horrible bitch!

Checkingout811 · 19/05/2021 18:52

She’s a brilliant actress. I love this idea OP. This is why she’s so stressed at home and forgets world book day; she’s too busy plotting against AC12 and perfecting her smirk in the new mirror Garry installed.

3scape · 19/05/2021 18:57

Yes. And Olivia Coleman's character Ellie in broad church is a grown up later version of her inappropriate fresh out of the academy self in hot fuzz

SisterMichael · 19/05/2021 19:00

I think the actress did say something like this on the podcast with Craig Parkinson. That Carmichael was doing everything at home - looking after kids and home plus caring for an elderly parent and had no-one to hug her. In Motherland she does have a husband but he’s never there so it is similar!

@Womencanlift
I need to listen to the LOD podcast clearly I've been missing out.

@Checkingout811
Haha, Garry with 2 Rs. She needs a little fantasy of her own to deal with the stress of her mum moving in!

You need the ‘Shrine of Duty’ podcast in your life!

I love those cheeky rascals so much I stole my username from them! Grin

@SisterMichael

You know, I didn't even realise till Season 3 that she had a husband! He's so useless, she should Ltb. Imagine how much her life would be with exH doing 50 50 of the dc.

Having known people like this in real life, I completely agree. Completely together successfully, all over the shop parentally

@GlassBoxSpectacular
I'm obsessed. I can see myself hanging out with with Kate, Steve and Ted. Basically I'm friends with them, they just don't know it yet.

I said this to my husband when we watched motherland after Lod. It really made me quite happy imagining this.

Fortunefavours1 · 20/05/2021 22:08

@Demelza82
I think it's I'm one of those people, unflabbale at work, a shouty disorganized mess at home who dc ignore.

Haha! Sarah Millican said this on the Obsessed With Line of Duty’ podcast and it did make me chuckle. What a fab spin off that would be!!
