AIBU?

To ask if I should wear the clothes I'm selling on marketplace in the pics?

Will I have more joy if I post photos of me (not my face) in the clothes I'm selling? So people can see them on? Or is that icky and just a reminder that they are pre-owned?

I have so much to get rid of!

I wouldn’t... you’ll be reminding people they’re used first of all, and secondly you may attract unwanted attention from men who think they can comment on your body just because you’ve made it public.

If you’ve got a lot to sell can you get hold of a mannequin from somewhere? I always think that looks more professional as well.

No. I think it’s really strange when people do this tbh. Or their child (face scribbled out) playing with a toy.

I don't usually! But I saw a listing on a local buy and sell group where a slim 20 something was wearing all the clothes and they sold quickly! I'm also a slim 20 something so didn't know if I should try the same Grin good to know, thanks!

If you’re on Depop then yes absolutely do - it’s great to see what items look like on. If it’s a particular brand, try and see if you can find photos from the brand on the internet. At the moment I’m selling a lot of items which are too small for me so I won’t be trying them on as no one wants to see them modelled badly.

If it's used knickers, tights/stockings or shoes yes. There appears to be a niche yet profitable market for such items 🤢

My friend used to see a lot on eBay and she bought a mannequin, not quite the same but does help when browsing for clothes. I personally wouldn't post pics of myself because, well, men...

My personal favourite is kids in the buggy so you can't really see the buggy at all.

I just photograph things on the hanger/floor (depending on item).

Personally I prefer things displayed on a plain background either white wardrobe doors or laminate floor is good.
Also if you sell on eBay take plenty of photos, think you can have 12. I like to see things from front and back plus closeup of fabric and features plus care labels.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 19/05/2021 16:13

I, too, prefer to see items on a hanger, mannequin etc than on the seller.

IwillbeyourUtomyT · 19/05/2021 16:21

Please no, I refuse to buy anything being modelled

Wiredforsound · 19/05/2021 16:28

If you have a great figure then yes. If you look like a potato then know. There’s a reason models exist.

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 19/05/2021 16:40

Nope, really weird when people do this. Also read an article a few months ago about women who have been harassed by men as a result. I wouldn’t bother, just get a photo of the clothes laid out on the floor or on a bed.
