Ignore my heart!!

We have 2 beautiful healthy children, a girl in juniors and a boy in yr 8 at high school. 3 bed house so a room each. We’ve spent a long time struggling financially due to childcare costs and retraining. We are now much more comfortable financially. I am the main earner. My husbands earnings are unlikely to ever change much as his job doesn’t have much scope for improving, and tbh he isn’t inclined much to retrain. He’s quite content just getting his wage and living life. My job is pretty secure (barring Ill health) and will increase in earnings over the next few years.

Both children have a busy schedule of extra curricular activities which cost money and take some organising due to my shift work.

I am approaching 40 fast, my husband is already mid 40s.

So my dilemma is that I’ve always wanted 3 children and assumed I would eventually. Life however didn’t quite work that way, and as such we have our lovely two. My heart wants a 3rd and I know time and practicality are not on our side. The head most definitely knows it isn’t the best idea. A house move would set us back as we relocated to a much more expensive part of the country a few years ago to be closer to family, so have already stretched ourselves at this later stage of our mortgage lives! I don’t think a double storey extension for an extra room would be an option as no one in the area has one, which makes me wonder if there is a reason for that.

My husband doesn’t worry about much and he’s happy to go with the flow. He is happy with 2 kids, but would be happy to try for a 3rd if it’s what I wanted to do.

Has anyone else been in this position and does that achy heart go away? Did you ignore the heart and live to regret it? The cons list is very long. The pros list is very small 🙈
