Could I really have dislocated my sodding jaw?

Without pain? My jaw deviates to the right when I open my mouth wide quite a lot & one of the jaw hinges feels out of place. I can feel the ball not in the socket if that makes sense. I had a tooth extracted a week ago so put it down to healing but now I'm not so sure and can't sleep for worrying. Mostly because the swelling and pain has gone but my mouth still won't open without veering to one side.

I guess it is possible. Jaw discomfort can be common, and definitely muscle spasms etc. But I thought a jaw dislocation would mean that your mouth would be stuck open/unable to close? You could try 111 in the meantime if you can’t get through to the dentist before 9am?

If it helps when I dislocated my jaw I couldn’t open my mouth more than about a centimetre. It bloody hurt having it put back in place as well.

I'm a dentist, Doesn't sound dislocated as the jaw wouldn't be able to close again easily. I think the pressure on the jaw from the extraction has hurt the muscles on the right hand side and your body is protecting them by swinging to that side when you open wide.
I'd ask your dentist if they can advise you on exercises to correct the deviation and it should settle. Have you any pain?

It sounds like it. Hope you get it fixed today.

No pain at all. Just the swinging to the other side thing and the bump were you feel the jaw hinge when you open your mouth feels more pronounced on the left side. (It swings to the right).

I thought about calling someone but I felt silly because of the lack of pain. So I've been quietly worrying all night instead. Blush

It all looks and feels normal when my mouth is closed. I've had such a shitty few months (cancer diagnosis & losing a good friend) that stupidly this little thing feels like it's pushing me over the edge.

Spoke to the dentist and I've been told to go to the Dental Hospital so off I go now. Sad

Hi @CheeseTheDog
how are you feeling now? Was your jaw dislocated?
