Possibly a flour beetle?

Carrotcakefiend · 17/05/2021 20:39

It's a red flour beetle (i think). Completely harmless. There's another similar type called the confused flour beetle! Confused

Thanks guys! I tried looking online but searching "small brown insect" seemed not to narrow it down hahahah

Yep that's a flour beetle, Tribolium (probably) castaneum. Totally harmless, might want to check any bags of flour or bran for larvae just in case that's where it's come from.

Definitely flour beetle. For future reference, the National History Museum has a wonderful service where you can email in random photos of creepy crawlies and they will identify them for you! Particularly useful if you think you've found something harmful or anything. I found this out when I thought we had a false widow spider in the garden, panicked because it was about an inch away from my son's head. They emailed me back within about an hour with a really detailed reply, I was amazed!

It's not a bug, it's an insect. You can tell by the 8 legs (bugs only have 6).
