Second AZ jab. Please help my relax!

Hi all! Posting similar recently in 'coronavirus' but didn't get many replies.

I am nearing 30. Had my first dose end of Feb time. Due my second today.

I am so nervous. With the talks of clots etc.

I didn't really have any side effects with my first. Other than palpitations a few days later but this may be coincidence.. as get them because of anxiety anyway but they were worse than usual. Also tired the next week but again might not have been the jab. I didn't feel ill at all after.

But my anxiety is killing me. I just can't relax. I already feel ill due to anxiety - tense painful chest, tension headache, nauseous etc due to nervousness about it.

Have any other younger (or anyone buy particularly under 40 due to it not being given in that group anymore) people had their second jab? I know the risk of clots are very very low. But I suffer badly from tension headaches that can last for a couple days and are worse when lying down which is a sign of the said blood clots... also the anxiety chest pain. What sort of things do you really need to look for?

Anyone else had no symptoms with first ad absolutely fine with the second?

Apologies for not being in the right area but need some reassurance and a hand hold.

Dc are also poorly (non covid) with snotty noses. I hope I don't catch that after the actual vaccination. I had a cold last month and I was ill for 10 days (I tested negative for covid at the time).

If you were going to get a blood clot, it would have happened after the first dose, I think within 3 weeks.

I just had my second AZ jab. I had 36 hrs of flu symptoms after my first jab, but only 3 hrs of flu symptoms after the second dose.

Thanks you. I know the risk is pretty low especially with the second. I am also worried I'll feel ill after the lack of symptoms after the first. Knowing my luck I'll be feeling very poorly with this one...

Hi, sorry you’re so anxious. Maybe try and take your mind off it by doing something that keeps you busy/occupied (not suggesting you’re not busy already).
I suffer with anxiety and with health anxiety since Covid. I find the best thing to do is distract myself. Also might be worth speaking to gp to see if you can get some talking therapies. It might help you, if you aren’t doing something like that already.

I'm the only one of my friends who hasn't had my second AZ, because I'm pregnant. I'm 30, my friends are 31 - 32 - most have had it because of their careers.

One felt a bit flu-ey the following day, not awful by any means but she watched TV on the sofa for the day. The rest have all been absolutely fine, even the ones who had palpitations after the first one.

Honestly, at this point, it's far more likely that your anxiety will convince your mind that you're feeling poorly than that you'll get a blood clot or feel especially bad. I get anxiety too, and having mine randomly delayed is definitely triggering it!

Do some mindful breathing, use the Headspace app if you like that kind of thing and do some of the anxiety exercises. Remind yourself that you're going to be fine, just like you were the first time, and that this will protect you from a pretty nasty illness.

And then keep yourself busy and redirect your mind back to whatever you should be doing/thinking about when it wonders to the jab.

Best of luck to you, you've got this.

Had my 1st Az on 6th March - no symptoms for 12 hours then felt like really bad hangover - very sore head, shakey/flu, arm punched etc.

Had my 2nd on Friday. Immediate sore arm (jab a bit odd, as nurse pulled needle out blood followed and dripped all over floor)

No further symptoms of any kind. Much easier than 1st one.
(though maybe the jab contents ended up on floor too??)
You should be fine - go for it ;)

nancywhitehead · 17/05/2021 13:22

Keep an eye on your anxiety - as a PP said, that is the most likely things to be giving you symptoms at this point.

Second dose of AZ has fewer side effects than the first. If you were ok with your first you will be fine with the second. Honestly, you are stressing yourself out over nothing x

CornishGem1975 · 17/05/2021 13:25

Just keep in my mind that the risk of developing a clot from having COVID itself is supposedly higher than the risk of developing a clot from the vaccine.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 17/05/2021 13:30

I'm 36 and I've had both AZ jabs. No side effects whatsoever on either.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 17/05/2021 13:31

I had my first in February and my second two and a half weeks ago. I'm in my early forties. After my first jab I had the typical flu type symptoms the next day and was then fine. After my second I initially had nothing but then got headaches and pins and needles in my hands and numbness in my face. The former came on and off for about ten days, the latter came day 3/4 after the vaccine but then disappeared.

Like you I was very nervous about the second jab, and, I'm not going to lie, I was very worried about those headaches. I ended up going to A&E and had a blood test which came back ok. All medical personnel I saw about this were very kind and understanding, and I was seen quickly.

A friend of mine had over a week of headaches after her second jab and was totally fine, her jab must be nearly two months ago. The nurse who checked me over at the hospital said that headaches are very common after the jab.

The number of people suffering clots after the second jab are incredibly low, something like one in a million from what I last read.

I am glad now I went ahead with the jab despite the initial worries.

I believe you are more likely to get a blood clot from the oral contraceptive pill.

percheron67 · 17/05/2021 13:33

Just relax. it is a doddle. had a slightly sore arm with the first and nothing at all with the second.

Bubby2997 · 17/05/2021 13:35

Thanks all. I didn't even get a sore arm with the first so I know I'm being ott. I hope once I've actually had it done my anxiety will ease. It was meant to be at the weekend but I had to change last minute so today instead (still only just over 11 weeks ago since first)!

I am not on the pill but I totally get that point 😊

I've just been given a date for my second this Friday and like you am very nervous about it. I am trying to calm myself down by thinking that whilst I would prefer not to have to have it, I need to have it and am most likely to suffer less than if I get Covid.

Hope it all passes quickly and painlessly!

thatsforsure · 17/05/2021 16:34

I had my second yesterday - Its been the same as the first - felt achy in the night and now have a headache

Worth it I think

StillMedusa · 17/05/2021 16:38

My son is 23 and has both of his AZ jabs (he's in an at risk group)..was poorly with the first one, absolutely fine after the second!

(I'm older obviously but have also had both due to being a keyworker and again..second one was fine!)

Imanessexgirlgetmeoutofhere · 17/05/2021 16:40

37, history of dvts, first dose AZ end of Feb. Unwell for 2 days and then fine. Had second dose at the weekend and have only had a slight headache and a sore arm. If you're really worried perhaps talk it through with GP or medical professional who can help alleviate your anxiety?

Bubby2997 · 17/05/2021 17:18

Thanks guys. I've felt a little more at ease as the days gone on. I wished I booked it in the morning rather than sharing around all day though!! 😒😒

I have my second dose booked for tomorrow, also nervous as I had flu symptoms and fatigue for a week with the first! Will let you know how I get on!

Scramblerr · 17/05/2021 20:18

I had both doses of AZ. I felt horrendous after the first dose for a few days, I said that when I got my second dose and they said the first one tends to have much worse side effects than the second. I felt completely fine after my second dose.

PollyPepper · 17/05/2021 20:32

Wish I had this problem, as much as anxiety isn't nice. I'm front line police and haven't even had my first dose. Got spat on last week from someone saying they tested positive.
I thought they didn't given AZ to any under 40's?

FortniteBoysMum · 17/05/2021 20:34

I am 33 day after my first az jab I went to work and was told I looked like shit. Now I never take time off sick for context. I lasted an hour before I went home. My arm was agony, I could barely keep my eyes open and I had a headache worse than any migraine I ever had. I will personally still be having my second as the side effects from the jab are far less than my friend who was hospitalised from covid suffered and is still suffering from. For context the clot risk of taking birth control is about 1 in 10,000 the risk from the vaccine is less than 1 in 1,000,000. That's more than a 100 people on birth control will get clots to every 1 from the vaccine. People still take that daily

toothpicklover · 17/05/2021 21:16

It would have happened after your first dose. Also pfizer gets clots too but it is just not spoken about as much, many drugs cause blood clots. Heparin is a big one which is how Professor Scully linked what was happening with AZ to the clotting cascade that happens to some people who take heparin.

It's very rare, far more likely to get clots from flying, taking the pill, being pregnant and getting COVID.

Nottodayjosephine111 · 17/05/2021 21:24

I’m 34, had my second dose on Friday. Didn’t get any side effects from first dose but second one floored me a bit. Chills, headache, fatigue etc it’s only just stopped this afternoon
