Aibu to think that this won't be as effective for a young child?

We had several sessions last year by video call and worked much better than I expected. A lot of speech therapy at that age is helping you to help them (I'm not an expert). Is worth giving it a go.

We had one last year and went better than I hoped. I also had a 4 month old at the time to manage.

It was quite a long call about 90 minutes. The first half was the SALT taking to me and getting info about DD, then the 2nd part was the assessment. When she was talking with me DD was playing on the floor and the therapist was observing.

What I would say was I obviously had a huge tidy up before the call and all the toys had been rearranged so her most favourite were maybe not in the foreground. So when the therapist asked her to get her xxxxx she was fairly clueless as it wasn't a familiar toy. This happened a few times.

DD was nearly 3 at the time of the call.

I was exhausted after the call!

It's 7 months since our assessment and we are still waiting to have any therapy with waiting times etc

Also had a video SALT call and I agree it worked better than I thought. As JC said at this age it’s more about teaching the parent what to do and how to offer speech sessions at home. We were provided with a list of things we needed pre call like some blocks, pencil crayons and paper. My son has come on remarkably over a relatively short space of time.
