MAU or 111? 24wks pregnant & high levels of blood in urine

WIBU to call MAU for this?

I’m just over 24 weeks pregnant and I’ve had a recurrent UTI/kidney infection since around 10 weeks - each time my only real symptom has been a severe pain in my left side and then blood/protein/leukocytes in my urine once it’s been dipsticked.

I’ve had 3 lots of antibiotics in this time and each time the pain comes back with a vengeance once I finish the antibiotics.

It’s been close to 2 weeks since I finished the last course and just as I was thinking it was finally over, the pain has come back very suddenly yesterday and quite severely - this is a bit different to previous times when the pain came back gradually. It’s also over a wider area this time - going across slightly to my right side, and down towards my bladder, although the lower down it is, the more it feels like ‘pressure’ rather than throbbing pain.

I’ve got some urine test strips at home now and so I’ve done a couple over the past 12 or so hours to see what is going on. Both times it’s lit up like a Christmas tree: ++++ for blood, ++/borderline +++ for leukocytes and trace of protein.

I don’t think I can wait until tomorrow to attempt to see a GP - and even then it’s hit/miss whether I’d be able to actually an appt same day - but I’m just wondering whether this would be something I should be ringing MAU for or whether I should ring 111 instead?

Midwife here. Call MAU give them your history they should invite you in to assess you and check on baby too.
Don't leave it as could lead to hydronephrosis.

Sorry to hear you are having these problems it is very painful.

General Practice nurse here (former A+E nurse). MAU, because recurrent ajtibiotics clearly isnt working. You potentially need IV antibiotics and further tests to see whats going on.

Thank you, wasn’t sure if I’d be overreacting or whether it was something they would even deal with. But yes, it’s super painful and it’s just making me miserable constantly Sad

Going to get myself showered and then I’ll ring.
