To think GP surgery’s closing their list is wrong when these

Theses only one other surgery in the area especially for long periods. Not only does it put loads of pressures on the other surgery it also means patients don’t get the choice others have.

Yeah...but if they already don't have enough doctors to safely look after the patients they have, and can't recruit...

MontysRoseGarden · 15/05/2021 21:09

doctors only need tower part time these days, our practice is the same.

its not 'wrong' just necessary if there aren't enough doctors in....what can they do?

wingsnthat · 15/05/2021 21:11

You didn’t think this through before posting did you?

Many surgeries are already at bursting point. Whenever I call at 8am for a phone appointment, I can’t even get through until 9am where there’s a significant chance all appointments are already taken for the day. I just don’t see how they can continue to squeeze more and more patients in if they don’t have the GP availability to cover them.

The Primary Care Trust needs to deal with this problem.
Individual surgeries operate within safe guidelines. If the GPs only work part time then it's up to them.

Or they do what to many people would be full time hours and work for a part time wage...

Our surgery is at bursting point. We have to say no or 5 GPs will be off with stress and a breakdown. I was very close to this a few weeks ago. Our list size has gone up by 1000 6000-7000 in less than a year and we can't get more GPs....please just tell me what we can do.

I work part time (5 sessions/ half days which is 30 hours a week)

10 sessions is full time which is 60 hours a week. Please tell me how we can go on?

Wecouldbe456 · 15/05/2021 21:24

I’m registered with a practice that since the other local one closed its lists. I’ve not been able to even get through never mind get an appointment. The other practice won’t even tell the local people when the list re opens which I’m pretty sure is against guidelines.

I do get the stress they are under but at the same time putting strain on another local practice also isn’t fair.

You can't get the vaccination without being registered with a gp, I was told and the NHS site seems to confirm.

I moved just prior to first lock down and everywhere had the lists shut as soon as lock down happened. Managed registered by going through the ccg eventually - obviously couldn't choose the surgery but as I'm not a regular gp user I wasn't that fussed anyway. It was a hell of a lot of hassle though and took about three months to sort.

If the other practice can't handle it then can't they close their list too? Or is that not allowed?
Wecouldbe456 · 15/05/2021 21:42

Of course they can close their lists I’m just saying doing it for months at a time isn’t fair and parents should be shared between

Blame the Conservatives for not spending remotely enough money on primary care, keeping us at a fraction of doctors per head of population, compared to most of the western world. The usual comparison is that you can't get annual health insurance for a hamster for the amount of money a GP practice gets for annual care of a patient.

(No, I'm not a GP. I'm a hospital doctor who wouldn't do their job for all the money in the world)

I didn't know if they were allowed to if they were the only one as I don't know the rules. That's why I asked. Maybe they should close their list too if they can't handle it then.
NailsNeedDoing · 15/05/2021 22:08

It’s wrong that the surgeries have been put in the position that they have to do this, but the GPs aren’t wrong to ensure that they can service the patients they already have registered.

Daphnise · 15/05/2021 22:09

Nearly all GPs seem to be closed anyway, and many would love to close their lists if it didn't mean less money for them!
