An acquaintance has just posted a link to a crowd fund on her Facebook page. Her children and the other children looked after by her childminder are doing a sponsored walk to raise funds to take them on outings. So basically she wants us all to pay for days out which she would otherwise have to pay for?? She's donated a tenner - very generous.

I hate crowdfunding for things like this.... so grabby!

This is very cheeky. My old childminder used to take the dc on loads of lovely outings and she never asked for any money. She just saw it as costs associated with running her business.

They aren't disadvantaged kids, and I haven't donated.

That reminds me of something I saw on tv last night. On the news, they featured a lady who sadly lost a few thousand in a Bitcoin scam. She’d given them some savings, and there was no hint that she was destitute as a result. However, at the end, she basically asked people to give her money. It was very cringe-worthy.

Yup, CF and embarrassing. I know someone who did this to pay for her own dog's vet bills .

Someone on our local FB page started one to buy her a MacBook Pro because she fancied forging a career as a commercial artist, or something. I would be very interested to know if anyone chipped in!

Remember being asked to donate towards a sponsored bike ride in Peru. Supposedly for charity, but sponsors’ pledges counted towards the cost of the trip. This was in pre-crowd funding days, when people handed over cash and wrote their names on a list. So you’d like me to part-fund your cycling holiday in South America??

Someone I know did one to try and fund their kids trip abroad for a sports club. Both working parents with very low outgoings (as we had been told by them )
