To not know what to do about this

Posting for a quick response hopefully. Quick question- my baby is 10mo and this week has suddenly started resisting naps and also waking up in the night (having been sleeping through). I've only just got her down for her afternoon nap which would normally be at around 2.30. She's been fighting it, and also went down late for her morning nap due to resisting it, and so the timings all got pushed. Her bed time is 7.30. What should I do now? Am worried her awake windows will be too short? I expect she might wake about 4.30. Should o stick with 7.30 bed?

I would. Would also start moving to one nap a day instead of two.

OhMyAttic · 13/05/2021 16:10

I would like Jelly said. Try a couple of weeks with a nap around lunch and keep the bed time the same.

Really? Just one nap at this age? Everything I've read says babies should stay at two naps until well over a year. I agree it feels tempting but I dont want to mess it up. We've had a good routine up until now with whatever this developmental leap is....

Have other people successfully dropped down to one nap at 10 months?

I would always say go with what your baby seems to need rather than what the books say. If she is fighting naps consistently when previously she was napping fine, it's time for the routine to change.

Yes, one of mine was only having one nap at 9 months. Would go down just after lunch and sleep generally for 2-3 hours. then bedtime at 7pm. Once we started doing that she would sleep through the night much better too,as had, like your dc started waking at night and fighting the 2 daytime naps.

They are all different, I'd go with what works best, the books are not always right for every baby. Its definitely trial and error sometimes until you figure out what works best.

As others I would go with one nap

NoFishing · 13/05/2021 16:52

Okay interesting, thank you. And should I just start trying that tomorrow or do I need to gradually alter things?

Just do it tomorrow.

My baby went to one nap at 11 months. Everything I read said to wait but it really worked for him. Started around 11:30am at that age, but it’s moved later and later and is now the lunchtime nap now he’s 2.

Astronaut8 · 13/05/2021 17:04

Yes start tomorrow, agree with 11:30.
Hopefully it works and she has a good rest, and also gives you time for yourself.
