It fascinates me how areas seem to fulll of horrible people. I take your word for it re N . Norfolk.
My street WhatsApp is a joke, I have organised a Christmas thing, donated loads of books, we do all the usual taking in of parcels, smiling and waving and basically we could be dead and nobody would notice.

Suburban North West for reference.

I don't think Brighton is overated as to be fair it has traditionally never been rated! It has always had a sinister side as depicted in Graham Greene's, Brighton Rock. My parents were really surprised that we were going to bring up a family here because of it's historical reputation.

When you live in the family zones it's very community spirited and liberal so you won't be mocked for that mindset as a parent. Well this is particular areas of the city obviously not all of it. I don't know anybody who socialises in the the centre, which is a bit edgy and grimly. This tends to be what those visiting for the day see or tourists but when you live here you are not living in one perpetual hen party experience!!

For instance, reading the performance parenting thread recently, lots of those behaviours people find annoying are a familiar sight in the part of Brighton I live in. I have noticed when I visit my Mum in the rural midlands it is very much the case that you would stand out like a sore thumb parenting in that way!
